Anyone with some thoughts on which model the Ibanez Musician below is? I think it's an MC550 from 1981. Serial number is G815928.
A friend bequeathed this to me some time ago and I'm just now rediscovering it -- a beautiful sound, great sustain, though I haven't figured out how all the electronics/switches work. Will upload photos when I can figure out how.

Here's a pic of a MC 550 from an '81 catalogue Harry gave me.

and here are the specs:

An old friend of mine used to have one in the mid 80's. I loved that guitar although I also found the possibilities with the switches and EQ overwhelming.

that pretty much looks like what i've got. i agree: all the sound choices are a little overwhelming. any idea whether the serial number means its an '81 model? let's try this one more time: musician

Hi Twostones,

Yes your guitar is an '81 model. July 81 to be exact.

The letter in the serial number is the month of production. A = January, B = February and so on. The first to digits represent the year of production. So G81 is july 1981

For more info on serial numbers do a 'keyword search' on serial number. That will keep you busy for a while.

Hi Twostones,

Obtaining original docs will be very difficult. You might give it a tru on these boards though.

Good luck and let us know what you can find.

just gave the guitar a tune-up -- had a pro here in hong kong check the electronics and the neck. now it's in beautiful shape. amazing tones, all 15 of them or whatever. the guy who fixed it couldn't stop raving about it -- "they don't make 'em like this anymore!"
