Author Message   Diver (Diver) Posted on Sunday, January 26, 2003 - 3:16 pm:    Hey all, I'm new here to the board but after purchasing my first Ibanez I was glad to find you and several other resources for Ibanez owners. Ibanez owners seem to have a wealth of information at their disposal as opposed to others. Can someone help me identify this new guitar and tell me a little about it or at least point me in the right direction for gaining this information? Here's what it says on the back of the headstock: CE the it has F9756390 and an S and then Japan Thanks in advance for any help.   Mr_Roadstar (Mr_Roadstar) Posted on Sunday, January 26, 2003 - 3:45 pm:    Diver, The serial number only reveals the date of build (1997) and factory. We need a physical description and/or photos to ID it. What is the pickup configuration? What type of fretboard does it have. What type of bridge does it have? What inlays? Does it have a pickguard? It looks just like this one: http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=RG470&color=1 It has the lo trs bridge and the v7, s1, v8 Pup configuration. I got it second hand for $180 and and wondering if this was a good deal or not. Except for the bridge it seems to be the same guitar as the 570.? I believe you are correct with your ID. The RG570/470 are, and have been, very similar throughout the years. The 570's have (to the best of my knowledge) always used the Edge, and the 470's the Lo-TRS. $180 is a good price. It just needed a reboot, but I was half drunk (Yea Bucs) and it was late, so I said screw it! Yup. The "F" prefix in the serial number indicates a Japanese build. Generally prefered over Korea or other locations. Although I've played more than a few Korean made Ibanez that were just fine. Opinions on the Edge vs Lo-TRS vary a LOT! I prefer the Edge, but that's just me. As for the Wizard neck, it's the thinnest thing I've ever seen. Some players like 'em. Others like a fatter (thicker) neck. My preference is in the middle. How many guitars do you have? I am hoping the Lo-TRS is much better than the Edge users say it is. It's got to be better than the one on my 88' Charvel Model 2. What a great guitar. I had heard they have fast necks but never really knew what that meant until I played mine last night. What a great guitar. The PUPs weren't quiet as "Hot" as I was hoping for but they are still nice. I came without a Trem Bar. Anyone know where I can get one for mine Lo TRS? Try a fresh set of strings, and play with the pickup height a bit. No, the V7/V8 pickups aren't as "hot" as say a DiMarzio Super Distortion. That's the bar with the threaded collar (not the snap-in type), yes? If you've got a store nearby that sells Ibanez, they should be able to get a whammy bar for you. If you can't get one, gimme a holler. I've got a used one in my pile 'o parts. I don't see any threads when I look down in there but I haven't look to hard yet. I'm afraid all the local stores will rip me off but I'll call around tomorrow and see. Sounds like a nice collection of Ibanez guitars! Why do the RGs have cheap paint jobs? Are the 570s that way too? It looks nice but there are a couple of paint chips that tell me the paint job is cheap. There should be threads on the outside of the boss above the hole. Price for a new bar should be $15 or less. Still a rip-off in my book, but that's the typical retail price. Not sure what you mean by "cheap" paint jobs. RG's tend to get a lot of chips around the edges for two reasons: 1) The sharp corners are very easy to ding. 2) Basswood is soft and easily dented, causing the paint to chip. Where the arm goes into the bridge looks just like a nut sitting on top of the bridge. Yes they do have some sharp edges. Is there a link to fixin' up a couple of small paint chips? Friggin' Ibanez! The best thing to do, at this point, is take the guitar with you to your local Ibanez store. They should have both types available for a match up. I just took the neck off the RG470 and discovered a print on the base of the neck itself that says RG 550R #2. Although in the neck pocket of the guitar body it says RG470... could I have gotten a real Wizard neck (instead of the Wizard II) that came from an RG550 in this exchange? That would be cool!
