SO IF ANYBODY HAS ANY INFO, COLORS OFFERED, OPTIONS, VALUE, ETC PLEASE CONTACT ME AT qtbug@MINDSPRING.COM I'VE TRIED EMAILING IBANEZ, BUT THEY ACT AS THOUGH THEY NEVER MADE THESE GUITARS. THANKS   Marcel Posted on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 11:04 am:    In 1985 I bought a Ibanez Axstar and I still play it. The guitar is in excellent condition with a "Ferrari" red body, and I really mean RED :-). The rest is black. It has two single coil pickups and one Humbucker. It is one off the finest guitars I've ever played. When I bought it I was told that the axstar series guitars had a synthetic body, which was something of first for Ibanez. Wether this is true I'm not sure since there is no information available from Ibanez. The only thing I know is that these guitars are very rare. Since I'm not interested in selling I don't know how much they are worth but it is always nice to know. Please let me know what your axstar looks like. Finally another Astar player..... The guitar pictured in the front is an Ibanez with two dual blade full size humbuckers, bolt-on neck, clear red finish on maple neck and body, black hardware and standard tremolo bar. This is a star shaped guitar, but not an Explorer or Destroyer. So it's pretty hard to tell for sure. There are some pictures in Guitar Stories, Vol 1 that show star-shaped guitars in the DT (Destroyer II) series (circa 86-87). But everything is too small to read. On page 132 it mentions "a copy of the hybrid Dean ML V/Explorer design...the top of the line had blade-pole humbuckers and a sharp two-tone metallic finish. These guitars scream." Its different to Marcels, its twin humbuckers, and two knobs. One of the pickups is dead, and it has a few scratches, nothing that can't be fixed, its black, even on the neck which usually they are dark brown. I got it for $120. Any Idea what it's worth? I searched online, and this is the first discussion forum that has mentioned axstar guitars, and not a bass. "Collectors" are generally interested in original guitars, or restoring them to their original condition. Catalog specifications are used to determine originality and aid in identifying specific models. If all you want is a player, that's cool. Street value on Axstars (from the limited info I could find) appears to be $200-$300 depending on model and condition. Since they are uncommon items, price can vary dramatically. '80s "Metal" guitars are not in fashion at the moment. True market value is decided by what the buyer and seller can agree on. If you think you're getting "ripped off", don't buy it. I am not an "Ibanez Collector" or any collector, I just figured that Ibanez Collectors would know more about Axstars. I buy what I like, and am not concerned with fashion, or what other people are into. I appreciate the info, I really liked this guitar, and my only concerns were that I wasn't purchasing this guitar for more than I could purchase it elsewhere, and that it was repairable. I have my peepers fixed on one. The body mimics a telecaster body exactly, and the headstock has AXSTAR in large type and By Ibanez in small type. I don't have a photo as it is hanging in a shop at the moment. They are asking $330 US for it. I would like to bag it for around that amount in Aussie dollars. I must tell it sounds much better than others I have and with the active pickups it gets a powerful sound (besides of its "little" body) for r&r, hard or heavy which is the styles I normally play.
