Please HELP! I need info on the RG50...

Author Message   Even_Flow (Even_Flow) Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2003 - 9:36 am:    Hi. I am looking at buying a used RG507, but the problem is that I don't know how old it is. I pretty much know how to read the serial numbers, but this serial number has kinda thrown a curveball. The serial number is F0137503. As you can see, there is an extra number in there. Is this a 2000? 2001? 1990? If anyone can tell me a little something about the history of these guitars, as they seen to be fairly short lived, it would be a HUGE help. Thanks. It's now the factory designator followed by 7 digits. The first two digits are the year. As usual, this new format is not 100% consistant so don't take me to court! We're still gonna have to rely on other indicators in some cases. It would have a V7 humbucker, s1 single coil and v8 humbucker in the bridge position. It has a Wizard neck, rosewood fretboard with jumbo frets. The basswood body was finished in RM (Rootbeer Metallic) and GN (Grey Metallic). Sound familiar?   Johns (Johns) Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2003 - 7:20 pm:    Oops, GN stands for Grey Nickel. BTW, the 2000 catalog says the RG570 came with an edge tremolo and in GN (Grey Nickel), IP (Iron Pewter) and SS (Sour Apple Sparkle).   Even_Flow (Even_Flow) Posted on Friday, April 25, 2003 - 9:58 am:    Well I dunno, this is from an actual guitar store, and he said it was a RG507, and that's the serial number. "From what I can gather it's a model introduced in fall 95 in Europe at least along with the: RG505, Like an RG550 RG507, Like an RG570, but with plain finished RG527, Like an RG570 with a reverse headstock RG547. Natural Ash RG570, with V6 pickups." Lots of different model numbers in that series have been limited to non USA markets. RG505, RG517, RG580, yada yada yada. Some of them manage to find there way over here.
