Hi,
I have been reading some of the other discussions and all noted that the Japanese models for the RG start from the 550. I own a RG 470 and behind the headstock, it says F98(made in 1998) with Japan written underneath it. Doesn't this mean that my 470 is made in Japan? how is this possible?

Hi,
What does it mean by a "double locking" tremolo (for an RG)?

Double locking means that the strings are locked at the nut end and the bridge end. As opposed to just locking at the bridge.

Sorry, I don't know about the RG series and the manufacturing locations.

RG470 bodies are made in Korea. The necks are Wizard necks that are made in bulk on the CNC machines in Japan.

All RG series 550 and up are made in Japan. The quickest way to tell is by the tremolo. If it's an Edge - made in Japan (or USA, but only customs of late). If it's a TRS - made in Korea.

Hope this helps,
d

But the 520 has an EDGE and is made in Japan. Sorry to screw up the formula :)

Rich,

Thanks man, I completely forgot the 520s. Make that all RG 5xx and up are made in Japan. Unless it says USA Custom on the headstock, then the origin should be obvious...

I believe that the RG4XX's are made in Japan as well, they are just made with the typically "Korean" parts (Ex, Lo-TRSII Trem, Wizard II Necks). They are the lowest line Japanese made RG available... I use to have a RG420, it was made in Japan but it had all the features mentioned above...

Thanks for the replys.
This is to dchord. You said that the bodies were made in Korea and the necks were made in Japan but all the other 470 in the store had necks which had made in Korea signs on the neck. This is why I am asking cause my one was the only one with a Japan tag on it.
PS. It has to be a 470 as it has all the features of a 470

I think it's just a case of sticker mix up. Or, when the guitar got to Japan it had damage to the neck and was replaced.

As for country of assembly of RG4xx's, I couldn't say for certain.

I'm pretty certain that Wizard (and Wizard II) necks are made in Japan in bulk.

Hi,
my guitar is a RG470FMR model, serial number C7043133. Does anybody know in what year it was built (I bought it in 1999, but I know it's older) and if its body is made from mahogany or basswood, as it has got a flamed top?

well guys.
it's hard to tell what Rg was made in Japan or korea. This happened to me, i had RG 250 (it's '94) was made in japan. then my friend had the same guitar which is made in korea.
but i agree with some guys said that high end RG was japanese made, such as 5xx series and upper.
but..again....if you checked out ibanez japan website, there are lower RG model that you can't find anywhere else, which i believe was 100% japanese made.
to Giulio : your Rg was made in 1997. the body is basswood.
thank you.
