Just got off EBay a UE300 but no manual has any body got one that I could have a copy. If not can anyone let me know which is the best way to hook it up to the amp as at the moment as at the moment its only seems that the chorus works only when the master is pressed on.

The master switches the whole unit on or off (think of it as a bypass switch).

I don't remember if it will also switch off the effects loop, but it does so on the ue400/ue405. (how I wish there was another switch for loop on/off!)

As for placement, I've never had an amp with a loop, so everything goes before the amp itself...
