I recently bought an Ibanez tubescreamer. It is
a ts-9 model. I wanted to know how i can find out
if it is an original Tubescreamer. Can somebody tell me how to date it?
thanks

Check out www.analogman.com - he does mods for TS9/TS10s that makes them into TS808s, basically. Pretty cool for like $60. He installs the old op amp that was used in the good-sounding TS808s.

I havent tried it but there's a mod availible at the Weber speaker web site. It's only 20 bucks
and you can get one for the TS5 too

Do you have a URL for the Weber site?

Thanks

Don't spend too much bucks on these mods and all.
I've got an original TS-808 (yes!), and did side by side comparisons with the cheap TS7.
Results:
Ts7 nails almost(9/10) perfectly the 808. Plus it already contains the 4558 Opamp used for the mods.
BTW the TS7 is better sounding than the RI TS9.

As noted above, analogman will do the mod, or sell you a new modified pedal. But this guy is worth checking out as well:
http://www.robertkeeley.com/
His modified pedals are a little cheaper, and from what I have read at Harmony Central, he does a great job and is a really good guy to do business with. I am planning on getting a modded pedal from him, either a TS-7 or a TS-9. He increases the range of the distortion level knob, in other words, you can get less distortion, or more distortion than an unmodded box. He puts a cool blue LED in his pedals too.

He also sells a copy of the the Ross compressor (which he builds himself) which I hear is really awesome.

JohnS,

the Webber site is:

http://www.webervst.com/
I don't know about their Tube Screamer mods though.

and http://www.jenkinssoundshop.com/index.html will build you a killer custom cabinet loaded with Weber speakers.

Thanks for the information on weber speakers.

BTW, I bought a pedal from Robert (on ebay). He was great to deal with. I can't tell you how his pedal sounds compared with other modded TS9s, but can say I like it a lot.

I have TWO of the KEELEY TS9 HIGH/LOW modded pedals...run side by side ala TREY from Phish... I LOVE e'm. I run the 1st (actually second in the side by side chain) with very little OD...then the other pedal run a BIT higher in the OD department...the result is a nice ton when I run only the 1st one...then a SICK OD if I run 'em both!!!! Different strokes I guess but I LOVE these pedals!
