TS-808: Cheaper in Japan

If it is made in Japan, is it cheaper to purchase it in Japan and bring it here or is it chepaer to buy it in the US? What is the cost in Japan in US dollars? I have a friend that will be visiting Japan soon and I might ask her to pick one up for me if it is cheaper.
