Hello Acetan and all.
I am new here, but I have been reading and searching the forum for a few months. I too like old AS guitars very much and have one '79 AS-200 (although I am not sure they were called like that in '79 plus there is no label inside the guitar) and two AS-50s with Super 58s, one from '81 and the other from '82 both sunburst.
The center block in the '82 AS-50 (as well as the '79 AS-200) is maple/ash/maple but for the '81 AS-50 it's maple/mahogany/maple .
I am curious about the center block in your red AS-50. Ash or mahogany?
Also I wanted to add that the two AS-50s sound very different from each other.
Thank you very much in advance.
Renzo

I never knew what was the center blocks were made of, sorry. As to the difference in tone, I would find a caliper and see if the two AS50's have tops of different thickness. The 81's may have lighter construction and were more resonant.

Just curious, all the AS50's I've seen made before September 81 had V-2's and Super 58's appeared on AS50's started in October 81. Does your 81 AS50 confirm that? Thanks.

I bought that guitar about two months ago on ebay BIN.
Serial #K814622. Does that mean November? Infact, could you tell me how the month thing works exactly?
Thanks.
