Anybody know what model guitar this is? The picture is from the 1998 catalog, although there is no such model shown in it.

GBWhatsIt?

John,
George Benson has been playing the Ibanez GB5 model for the last couple of years. Its funny because Ibanez discontinued production of the GB5 back in 1997/8 (not certain about the exact year or why?). Some of the early models have a Lacquor finish while in 1995 Ibanez switched to the Urethane finish.
In the recent Ibanez catalogs George can be seen holding the GB5 model but the catalog listing is for the GB200 model.
I happen to own a GB5. It's a wonderful guitar.

Harold:

I don't see a GB5 listed in any of my catalogs. Do you have the specs on this model?

It looks to be around the size of an AF model, with full-sized humbuckers mounted right into the top. Is that a fancy wood tailpiece?

What's the price range for one of these babies?

Thanks.

John,
The Ibanez GB5 has the following specs:
-Lacquer finished body (17 inches)
-Spruce Top
-Flame Maple back and sides
-3 piece Maple/Mahogany/Maple Neck
-2 Super 58 pickups (Gold) mounted to the top
-Ebony Bridge
-Ebony Fingerboard
-Ebony Tailpiece (not sure?)

You might be able to fine one in the price range of $1500 to $2000.

Harold:

Thanks for the info. Maple/Mahogony/Maple neck. That's an interesting combination.
