$575 total ($500 = axe. $75 = Ship (that's alot.) 1985 AM205 Super Edition. Needs a pickguard if anyione's got one, I will pay you for it. Otherwise, looks to be in great shape.
Is $500 a good deal on this model? What is diff. between a regular 205 and a "super edition?"
Thios post got accidently deleted before so... if you posted earlier, please post again. I also mentioned an sr480bm Ibanez bass I got last week for $100 total w/case and every original thing that came along with it. I was wondering if that was a good deal. ICW guys said it wasn't such a great dea; but all the sr480bm's I've run across are all in the $600-$800 range so, I'd appreciate if anyone could straighten this out for me. Was $100 total a good deal, bass is almost immaculate. I like it. It's my first bass. back to the AM205, I paid for it, waiting for it to arrive.

Hi Bobzilla:

Congratulations!

There was one up for sale last week on ebay
but the buy now price was I think around $1500...at that price there were no takers. Looks like you got a good deal....

I recall that one of my students had one of
those around 10 years ago (a teenager (!)).
Sweet guitar.

Tlk to you soon about next week

You stole it Bob. Congrets.

...and yes, the 205's came with pick-guards from the factory while the 255's didn't.

Congrats! $575.00 is an exceptional price. One member just paid $1300.00 for an '82.

If you can't find an original, the pick guards on the AM205s are simple b/w/b/w plastic. So, fabricating a reasonable replacement should not be difficult.

John, what about the hardware to attach it? Well, I'm hoping someone on this site has what I need. That would be nice. Can I say I got it for $500 and... shipping was $75? That is the case. AM205 Super Edition... 1985... $500 w/case. I needed a semi-hollow, I was inquiring on ICW apprx. 1 week ago for one.

Bob:

Even if you said that you got it for $500.00 and shipping was $300.00, I'd still say that you got an exceptional deal! :-)

Seriously, you have a knack for finding exceptional deals.

Thanx so much Dave et al. Dave... check the Scruggs thread.... IT'S ALIVE!!! Well, I paid for the AM205 yesterday, I overnited payment to arrive by 12 noon today. Guy says "I will try to ship it to you this weekend." TRY? C'mon big fella... I overnited you the payment how's about a little reciprocation and get that bad boy boxed up and on its way to NY! He seems like a very decent fellow, I'm sure he will get around to it this weekend and... that's it. I wait, I show you photos upon arrival. Anyone got a pickguard? it's gonna make me lose sleep if I don't find one... soon. Plus.... hardware.... I pay. I'm really looking forward to having this guitar. needed a semi. It's "SUPER EDITION" what's the diff. between super-duper and non super-duper? I'll tell you how I got this axe, after it's in my possession.

'Zilla, I'm incredibly envious, that's a FANTASTIC deal you got there on my Holy Grail. Let me know if you want $600 for it...

I'm sure we've covered this elsewhere on ICW, but the only differences between the standard AM205 and the Super Edition seems to be the graphite nut and the Super Edition fret marker.

This is how I got it.... this was one of the am205's on ebay and mentioned above. I think the seller wanted $1500. It didn't sell. I had sent him an offer of $500 during the auction and then I completely and totally forgot about it. A week later (or so) I got a "2nd chance offer" from him stating he'd sell it to me for $500. I said "great." That's it. I have a tracking # for it, should arrive 2morrow via fedex. I am striking out trying to find pickgaurd. Can anyone help out? I'll pay for it.

MK... yes, it was a pleasent surprise to receive his offer to buy it at $500.
I been tracking it.
Axe left Lexington Kentucky at 3:47 am this morning w/ scheduled delivery for tomorrow 6/28/07. Can't wait to shine it up and see what it has to say. I figured for $500, how could I go wrong. Well, hopefully, I won't. I can already tell it's gonna be a biotch trying to find that pickguard, it's driving me nuts!

Got the am205.
Nice, nice, very nice.
The neck is so completely different than any other IBZ I’ve owned.
This is stupid but… didn’t feel like an IBZ neck (although it is.)
I found the bass end of it to be a little lacking, alittle “muddy” (I don’t know if that’s the best way to describe it.
However, the higher end stuff is real sweet sounding.
Very very very nice.
It’s a versatile guitar.
I found that “The Rain Song” from Led Zep and “Dogs” and “Wish You Were Here” from Floyd sounded real good on this guitar, whereas, some other stuff I tried did not. Well, I should say, those other songs were probably better off played on a solid body.
I’d say this is certainly worth the $500 for way sure. I’m happy to own it and I took it to work with me today because I didn’t want to be away from it.
I’d like to get the pickguard on there and the gold plating is 90% gone from the pup covers, I really would like to have those plated some day.
This one has like “V” shaped strap buttons. Is that correct? Are they original, I would think not.
Nut is black (graphite?) Is that correct.
Axe is real real clean front and back except for… there’s always an “except for”… there are 2 finish cracks near the f holes on the left side (if you look at the axe face on.
Other than that, it’s real puuuuuuuuuuuuuuurty and they are not noticeable from a foot away.

Bob:

Congrats! You got another great deal. That guitar is worth hundreds more than you paid...regardless of the pickguard.

The V-shaped strap buttons and graphite nut sound correct.

'Zilla, like JohnS says, the graphite nut and bat-wing strap buttons are both original on the AM205. The bat-wing strap button was introduced in 1983 according to my catalogue. I'm not sure when the graphite nut was introduced.

How about some pictures of your beautiful new acquisition?

Thanx so much folks. I will post photos, maybe by Monday. Would like to get a/the pickguard on there. I'm having so much fun with this guitar. It's a comfortable guitar to play and... I've usually got alot of weight on my back. Still getting used to the neck, I like it, it's just way different than all my other necks. I can tell you this.... I can't believe I got it for $500. There was another thread, maybe in the vinatge thread, someone was complaining about prices on old IBZ's. Well, if I think about it, in the last 2 yrs. I got....

1) Pre-1975 Vined Scruggs model 2671 = $158.98
2) 1985 AM205 Super Edition = $500
3) 1978 MC500NT = $900 w/ orig. flight case
4) 1983 AR1200AV = $1,050 w/ orig. case
5) 2002 IBZ sr480BM Bass = $100 w/orig. case (I saw someone paid $600 for one not long ago)
6) 1981 model 2622 = $750
7) Someone (ICW member) gave me a free flight case too in there.

I'm sure there are others but... I think I made my point. Check this out ... someone says to me the other day... I have Joe Satriani's guitar, it's an Ibanez." I say "whatchyoo meeeeeean?" They say "He signed it, I won it aat a radio station event 10 yrs. ago, I've never opened the case since." Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... huh? Well, they don't play guitar, they no thing at all about guitars and theywon't mind selling it to me. They said whatever I offer, they will take because they have no idea. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Boooooooooooooooooooooooy! NEXT!!!!

It's probably a combination of luck and diligence (I'd like to think it was Karma.) I hope I wind up w/"Satriani's guitar" next. I gotta kinda play this one cool though. I mean... it's a friend of a friend and I'd feel bad taking total advantage. I won't. I'll be reasonable with my offer but I guarantee you, it will still be a great buy/bargain. At this point I don't even know which "Satriani" model it is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Chromeboy (*for $300.... unplayed, in the case.) YIKES! I'm afraid if I push too hard or too quick, they may start searching for the value on ebay or something, So... I'm just takung it slow with this acquisition, It's a girl by the way that has the guitar. Could turn out to be they just grabbed a lower-end model though for the promotion, then had Joe sign it. Soon find out. TBob I'll send you some Karma, if you/someone sends me a pickguard.
