Ebay Item #150136970887

I think this one is a real signature. This looks nothing like my 79 gb10's lithograph signature.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm, it looks VERY similar to my C79's signature.
GB10Sig

The only difference I can see is that it's not positioned on the label in exactly the same place. That would probably be the case, if the labels were preprinted with the signatures.

For comparison:
Here's the label from the '78 GB10 being auctioned:
78GB10Label

Here's one from a non-serial numbered GB10, but a handwritten #109:

Any graphologists out there? The first one definitely looks lithographed and the second and third don't, but 2 and 3 look uncannily similar.

I'd be more concerned about that neck join. The seller looks to be someone selling for the owner and may be able to get an answer on a searching question on that issue.

There's a little hickup in the line coming off the last letter in Benson that's there in all three that makes me think they are all printed, not signatures (and ALL the other details of the signature are exact in all three: spacing of letters, the middle loop in the B that crosses the vertical line, etc). I'm not a graphologist (or whatever you call those guys) but those are three exact replicas, unless George is some sort of machine himself.

i agree with chucke99. all signatures are exactly the same. i work with graphics and i'm pretty sure they were overprinted on the labels. depending on the year this overprint may have "danced" a little.
i never saw a handmade benson signature on a label, if someone has one please post a close up for comparison...

beautiful guitar! and it's a 21 fret GB, which is a plus imho.
are those metal dots near the knobs original?

Here's a George Benson signature that I would say is handwritten.

Yep. Those are real. Notice the curves of the "B" in relation to the "e". Completely different. Also, the decender of the "g", and the looping of the "G". Maybe I should become a graphologist?

Chucke99,

There were always a few students who forgot to put their names on their test papers, but I always knew who wrote what.
I fully agree. The GB10 signatures are to exact to be all original.
The GB12 signatures are indeed different.
The last one is a 1990 from Terada.
Can't see the serial nr of the other GB12.

I have studied handwriting exemplars and have my doubts about those last two GB12 signatures. Please send both instruments to me immediately for further investigation.

arghhh callistabb please don't kill me! it's too much for my battered heart. as a coup de grâce you could simply post a picture of the "sisters" GB12 and 100 together...

The GB12 currently lives with me in my summer house and the 100 enjoys the city life. They haven’t really met yet. Will bring them together soon and pics will follow, that is if I haven’t gotten Tim’s address before ;-) … Thanks Petruz!

Callistabb~ That is an amazing piece of art!

If you or John S. are ever in the SF Bay Area, please bring your GB12 for an up close and personal inspection. Amazing!
