Just wanted to get an idea of what I can sell this for and what better place to do that. It is a 2460 I believe. No serial number so pre '75 and all original and in amazing condition. Plays incredible. Here are a few pics. Let me know what you guys think.

Hi Charles,
I'd be interested to know more about it. However, i'm located in Switzerland which, depending on where You are might be a hassle to ship to.
I can see only two of the pics, do You have more.

Hi Charles,

I'm no expert on Ibanez or Gibsons. However, to my untrained eye, the guitar in the photo almost looks like a Byrdland. Could just be the angle of the photo though. Just curious - what is the scale length of your guitar?

Your guitar looks to be in excellent condition. It's gorgeous in the photos. Best wishes selling it...wish I could afford it.

Jazznote,
I have never shipped international and have no idea what it intels. I can take more pics. I am thinking of putting it on Ebay. I had a guy here in town offer me $2000 for it but a friend of mine told me with the condition it is in I could get more. He said he saw a pre lawsuit like mine go for close to $3000. Just wanted to see what everyone thought. We could discuss more if you are interested

Charlesc, for the purpose i need it for, $2000 would be too high. (I don't mean to say that the price for the instrument is too high .....) Thanks anyway

Wildfield, it is an exact copy of an L5 down to the open book headstock and flowerpot inlay. The scale is the same as an L5 although the neck is not quite as fat as the 70's L5.

Wildfield, just to train the eye: the Byrdland has a harp tailpiece, not an L-5 tailpiece, and it's a shallow body.

In order to see the depth of the guitar, it would indeed be nice if we could see the rims and bindings. Especially inside the cutaway. I know that the binding of (blonde) Aria PE-180 guitars let lose inside the cutaway after all these years. showing a hair crack of about 1". My friend "Jazzerman" (real first name gets beeped away all the time, and nobody calls him Richard) and I had exactly the same issue on the same spot in our PE-180 and L-1000.

There is no need to repair it, BTW. It's not a leek, but you can feel it with your fingertips.

Not familiar with the FA300. You can check out the listing and it has the specs. I would like to know also.

They pulled the auction because of spamming. I didn't know that I couldn't use gibson L5 in the title. I will list it again this week when I get a chance. I played it on a gig last night and it sounded great. Makes me think twice about selling it. What did you guys think of it?

WOW, great pics. I have an 1978 FA300 and except for the tail piece and knobs it looks identical. The cross section with the pickup removed reveals the laminated top. I can confirm that it is a great sounding guitar. I would put the value at 1500-2k based on watching other guitar at auction. 2k is a reasonable limit on a laminated guitar. I paid $1000 12 years ago.

SGjazz, thanks for the input. They are very similar. This is a lawsuit model so the headstock and flowerpot inlay is a big difference also. The go for more than the FA300. It is a laminated top but people dig the gibson copy. The one that Jazznote put a link to sold for $2800 on ebay last year. There is a thread to that somewhere in this forum. You can check it out. Thanks...Later

Hmmmm, VERY BEAUTIFUL, VERY GOOD, VERY WANTED... YES, but VERY RARE?

I don't know how many were produced, do you?

I've seen several members mentioning numbers about other models, they got from JD, I guess.
But I think there were more Ibanez 2460 guitars produced than Aria L-1000 guitars (rarer than PE-180).

But there are several other good reasons to pay a good price for this one. For instance: I see no deterioration of the pickguard and no corrosion. So it's a good one. The last good blonde went for $2,800.-
I think this bird will land somewhere between $2,000.- and $3,200.-
That's a wide range... I know... but that's necessary when you sell in the summer vacation.
Not all Ibanez fans have money available now: August is going to be terrible for sales. Just watch the shop windows.
It was wise to set a reserve. You might need some patience to get what you want for it. But if you're lucky, there are perhaps a few among us, who don't spend their money on travel tickets this summer. A nice jazz axe is a good alternative!

I have never shipped overseas but I could look into it. It might be expensive though. Ginger, thanks for your input. I couldn't give you an exact number of how many were produced, I am just going on my past experience. I have only ever seen a few of these ever for sale. When I went shopping for mine it took me close to a year to find one. I did want a lawsuit copy with the headstock so it made it more difficult. I know the summer is a bad time to sell. I figured I would give it a shot. I can always try again at a later point. Thanks.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I have ended the auction. I don't think I have the heart to sell it. I have been playing it and it kept me up all night and I pulled the auction this morning. I apologize to anyone who was going to bid. I am professional musician and all I play are jazz boxes. Several of the places I play at now are a little to loud and my guitars tend to feedback and it's getting annoying. I was going to buy a Historic Gibson 335 and I had to sell one of my guitars to do it. This is the one I picked and now I can't do it. I would regret it too much and I looked for over a year for this one. I think I will keep this and buy a less expensive semi-hollow. Anyone selling a as200? How are the necks on these? I can't stand slim necks. Sorry again fellas. Charles

I fully understand your decision, Charles!

I have a few ideas about AS models with Super 58 (ALNICO) pickups.
The Korean AS80 and AS120 are affordable and
the Japanese AS180 which is a DOT with chrome hardware and NO TRI-SOUND.
Tristan sold his for 800 or something.

^ I agree. That really is a gorgeous guitar. Good for you, Charles. We hear SO many stories about how sad folks are about selling one guitar or another. Obviously, there are times in life when "you have to do what you have to do," but if you don't have to...

Best wishes.

By the way, is the backstrap on your peg-head painted black or is that an ebony overlay? That's really neat!

CHARLESC!
Artstar AS80 (Korean with Super 58 pickups) for UNDER 300 DOLLARS.
2 HOURS TO GO!

Sound better that the Chinese AS models with ACH1 and ACH2 humbuckers.

Ginger,

I'm a little confused. You said the AS180 does not have tri-sound but it has the switch same as the AS200 and affects only the neck pup. If it is not a tri-sound switch what is it on the AS180?

Ooops, my bad. The fact that it is not mentioned in the 1997 catalogue specs:

http://www.t3-kundenserver.de/htmlpages/redasys/_c ore/databases/t_meinl-uploads/1997_gesamt.pdf
page 6,
does NOT mean, that it isn't there.

I have always been focussed on the AS120 in the 1998 catalogue (because I have an AS120), and totally missed the switch. I just thought, hmmm mine is more beautiful (especially after I installed a bound tortoise pickguard).
As you can see the Tri-Sound switch of the AS200 is better visible than the one on the AS180. All you see is a small black dot. But being an AS180 owner, you know better:

http://www.t3-kundenserver.de/htmlpages/redasys/_c ore/databases/t_meinl-uploads/1998_gesamt.pdf
page 28.
So, the AS180 HAS INDEED A TRI-SOUND switch.

Thanks for correcting me.

Ginger
