I just noticed that in the 78 catalog Ibanez accurately specifys the dimensions of the FA 700/300 and FA 100.
What about the FA 500 & 510? They write absolutely nothing concerning size or scale length. Does anyone know the dimensions?

Here's the original catalogue, not VERY specific though.

The FA500s and FA510s all had 24.75" scale lengths, as did the FA100 and FA300. The FA700 and FA800 had the longer scale.

In this '78 catalog it says that the FA800BS had a 24 1/4 (or 1/2 can't read it well) scale length .......http://www.t3-kundenserver.de/htmlpages/redasys/_c ore/databases/t_meinl-uploads/1978_gesamt.pdf

Jazznote, I have a 78 FA510BS that I love. Pgrey, is correct on the scale. I know the bout is 17 inches, however, I cannot remember the other body dimensions.

Thanks Stacey, beautiful guitar :-), this solves the mystery - i have nowhere found specs on the 510's fingerboard. But most likely the 800BS has a shorter scale as stated in the catalog.

The catalogs showed both the FA700 and FA800 as having 24.75" scale lengths. The catalogs are wrong. Every FA700 or 800 I've ever seen has the longer scale. The longer scale seems to go hand in hand with a carved top.

Thanks Peter, actually, when seeing the photos of a FA800 i also thought it did look like a longer scale - too bad the catalog is wrong, it made me abandon the idea of buying this beautiful FA800BS and now someone else, who is looking for a 24.75" scale may have bought it :-(
