Been seeing more pre-1980 GB-10's on ebay lately. Do genuine pre-1980 GB-10's have the words "Crafted in Japan" on the back side of the heads above the serial numbers? I've seen some with this and some without these words. Are there other ways to tell if these GB's are genuine or counterfeits???

There does seem to be a lot more GB'10's available on the market these days, from all years. Maybe the increased value of these great guitars is driving the increased numbers we are seeing on Ebay. Also, the model has been around for 28 years and counting, so there should be a bunch out there.

The ones I've seen all appear to be the real deal, but many have had hardware changes due to age and corrosion (Pickguards, and Pickups mostly).

The other more subtle misrepresentation are the GB10'JS' models made in Korea that some sellers present as the higher quality Japan made GB10's.

If anyone has evidence of what they view as counterfiet or fakes, please post your findings.

It is always possible that a decal was removed, of course. The "Crafted in Japan" decal is NOT the most important feature to discriminate fakes and genuine Ibanez guitars. We look at the whole guitar, and there are a bunch of features that are far more important. I will not point them out one by one, because counterfeiters read our messages too.

So, if you suspect that there is a stinker between them, post a link to the auction OR just copies of the pictures and you'll know if it's genuine or not, mostly within 24 hours.

So, without seeing the guitars in question, I'm not going to say anything about them based on one missing decal, because I could also spoil honest transactions this way. That wouldn't be fair to the sellers.

Links and/or pics in a ICW message, or e-mails to certain members, who are specialised in George Benson guitars, or hollow bodies in general, prevents useless false information and gives you the opportunity to make the right decision.

I think that I speak for all of us, when I invite you to let the pics speak.

Is $1,300 too much for a '79 GB10? No bids.

That's a VERY GOOD price for any blonde GB10 from before 1983. It's a slow weekend - Holiday weekend here in America AND a school is starting for a lot of families this is CRUNCH time when it comes to finances...

Usually a blonde GB10 from before 1983 will sell for $1500.00 to $1800.00 depending on the time of year...

Sold for the starting bid at the last minute. I'd like to find one (MIJ) for less than 1000 EUR here in Europe. (1300 USD ~ 950 EUR)

Looks to me like the tuners were changed out. Still, $1300.00 for a '79 is very good. But I would have had to see lots more detailed pictures, including the serial number.

Yes, that was a good deal at $1,300.

Yo, Big! Thanks for the You Tube of GB and AJ! Be well, my friend.
