AS200 on ebay questions

I suppose there could be a flurry of activity at the last minute. From the little I know, $1600 is very much in line with what a 1980 AS200 in good condition goes for. Any thoughts on the apparent complete lack of interest? Is it overpriced? There’s also a “Buy It Now” price of $1,800. I’m seriously thinking about buying it. This is pretty much the guitar I was looking for. I’d just like to know if I’m missing something here. And my other question is this – Somewhere (I can’t remember where), I read that at around the end of 1980 Ibanez changed the stock pickups in the AS200 from Super 70s to Super 58s. I don’t know if this is accurate or not. The AS200 that I’m interested in was manufactured in February 1980. Does anyone know what the history is with the AS200 and pickups? And most importantly – which pickups would be in this model from February 1980 -- 70s or 58s. I’ve e-mailed the seller with that question but I haven’t gotten a response. Considering that he originally thought it was from ’77, and also made of spruce, until corrected by someone on this board, I don't have much confidence that he knows. I did read somewhere (I don’t know if it’s correct) that the Super 70s have a butterfly engraved on the gold covers (giving the 70s the nickname “butterfly.”) If that’s true, it would certainly make identification between the two pickups very simple -- and it wouldn't require taking the covers off. The type of the pickups is engraved in the back of if. Don't take the cover off. You might damage a wire. Here are the correct specs for 1980: http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1980/02.jpg Super 70's look just like normal Standard PAFs or Classic 57. Not engraved. Only the polepiece spacing of Ibanez is metric (5cm E to e'). I've never heard it with 70s. So I let it go. Thanks Sep-27-07 A: No, it is the equivalent of an as-100 but perhaps a little higher. Thanks. Tom "The equivalent of the AS-100" is what? Of course THE AS-100!!! There were only two flavours in July 1980: the AS-200 with gold hardware and MOP/Abalone/MOP block inlays in the ebony fretboard and TRI-SOUND, ... and the AS-100 with NiChrome hardware, DOT inlays in a ebony fretboard and NO TRI_SOUND. But there are some other valuable parts missing: the Sure Grip (One) knobs. With today's prices: subtract $90.- to $120.- Reasonable? Of course not, but that's what it costs to get them original. Replacing the pickups is a matter of sound. They look the same as Super 70 humbuckers. What matters is: how is the position of the strings above the polepieces? And if you want to restore the electronics: add another $100-$140. IMO, the guitar has potential. And if you are looking for a player, you can leave it this way and keep the restoration money in your pocket. Ginger
