Replacement pickups for Artist 2629

Through reading the posts here, I have been able to work out that the guitar I own is a Nov 78 Artist 2629. Thanks guys! I also own a lefty AM205 and an old acoustic which I will try to identify at some future point using this wonderful resourse. My question is this: I am wanting to replace the pups in my 2629 - can anyone tell me if some of the boutique type replacements are likely to bring about a significant improvement in tone? How highly rated are the flying fingers from a sonic point of view? At some point, the original neck pup has been replaced by what might well be a Dimarzio I guess (I heard once that this was once a popular mod inspired by Carlton or the like and was responsible for mass abandonment of original neck pups on 335s)! Over here in the UK we have some wonderful handmade units called Bare Knuckle Pick-ups: http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/ I am considering the Stormy Monday humbuckers or the humbucker size P90 varieties. Obviously, I will make sure nothing is done to affect the originality or authenticity of the guitar abd will be safley packing the original pups away for the future.
