Then Oct-21-07 18:30:21 PDT bidder 2***2 shows up and reveals the $1225.- bid of n***7 which was placed hidden at Oct-21-07 17:56:32 PDT. Then Oct-21-07 18:30:29 PDT bidder dxxx0 places a bid of exactly $25.- LESS ($1501.36) than bidder MUSICALIX, who had bid $1526.36 ONE second earlier at Oct-21-07 18:30:28 PDT. Now, this is what happened IMO: dxxx0 is a shill bidder, just like 2***1 and 2***2. 2***1 and 2***2 are identities to drive up the price in an early stage. dxxx0 is also such an identity, but it's for the finishing touch. He places a ridiculously high bid, let's say $5000.- which reveals the highest hidden bid of MUSICALIX, after which he retracts the ridiculous bid. Then he places a bid of $1526.36 MINUS 25, which activates Musicalix's highest bid and the guitar is sold at a price which is actually hundreds of dollars too high. I'm surprised that eBay allows this. The 36 cents at the end of the amount are first used 18:30:28 PDT, dxxx0 uses it one second later with a lower bid. How is this possible? Something like this: - auction price = $1,475. - musicalix bids $1,600, auction price goes to $1,500. His bid shows as $1,500, not $1,600, however, he has room to spare... - dxxx0 bids $1,501.36, which in turns bumps the auction up to $1,526.36 because of the prior higher bid. At this point, musicalix show as bidding $1,526.36 even though he actually bid $1,600. - auction ends and musicalix wins. Someone offers a guitar, says what he wants for it and the first one who calls is the new owner (the Marktplaats idea), if he pays of course. The other option in the Marktplaats idea is that the seller asks for bids (and then you don't know where it ends and we can drive prices up just like on eBay). I prefer the first situation, make a call, hop in the car with a small amp, a cable, a Guitool and a multimeter and try the instrument and complete the transaction the old fashioned way (payment and receipt with price, serial number, seller's and buyer's data on it, so that I'm legally protected if someone claims that the guitar was stolen).
