I was in Alabama recently to visit my son, and his newest guitar (ESP "Limited"...??? I think...???) had a pair of EMG`s (EMG81 & EMG85) in it, and they sounded sooo smoooth...sustain forever...!!!
I realized that I have a old pair of his EMG`s (2-EMG 81`s)just sitting around, and thought I`d install these EMG`s in my Ibanez AK86 Jazz Box...!!!
I was going to replace the Volume and Tone Controls in it anyway, as they (Stock control pots) are "Junk"...my AK86 is only 11 months old and there is no "Sweep" to the volume control at all, just "Off or Full-Tilt".
The Tone controls are the same...!!!
I would like to wire it up with the 2 EMG`s and only 1 Volume & 1 Tone Control...(Like a Telecaster).
Can I "Wire-Up" the whole assembly first, and then drop the whole thing down through one of the pick-up holes...???
I would appreciate any suggestions or advice in my plans, OR..Is this project best left to my local Guitar Tech/Luthier for $50 to $100...???
Thanks for your input...!!!

I'll have to say this is the first time I've EVER heard of EMGs in a hollowbody.

I haven't any experience with active pickups and therefore haven't any suggestions or help to give. I just wanted to commend your bravery in stepping into unknown territory - to me anyways.

Thanks...Benito1300...!!!
I haven`t heard of anyone using EMG active`s either, but I`m an "Older" guy (60) with nothing better to do than experiment with "Tone" do some "Reversable" Mods such as this one, building smaller tube amplifiers etc...
I`m thinking for perhaps $100, I`ll let my local Tech look after the hassle of doing this work, as he has specialized tools for grabbing, holding, fishing wiring harnesses, etc etc etc...!!!
Yeah...I just talked myself into letting my tech take care of this...!!!
I`ll let you know what kind of sound I get with the Jazz-Box with EMG`s.
Thanks guys...

Here is one:

I've heard this pickup. It sounds good but it lacks adjustable poles.

I look forward to seeing your pics and hearing your tone report on this unique combination.

Thanks...Ben...!!!
I took my Ibanez AK86 into the shop today to have them install the EMG`s, so I should have it early next week...perhaps before.
I very interested to see what kind of tone I get out of this set-up...???
The "Active" pick-ups are such high output, I wonder about excesive "Howl" and "Feedback...???But I`ll soon see...!!!
I`ll take some photos and give you a full report...IMHO
