Wow, it looks like it is in very nice shape.

Is the FG100 made in Japan? Shape and size, it seems similar to a AF120. Reminds me a little of the guitar that Bruce Forman used to play.

H700814

H = Terada
7 = 1987
0 = month??
814 = 814th guitar built in year

Yes - it's one of the infamous H70xxx serial numbers, discussed somewhat here:

Jeez...I don't get it. Here's a case where the guitar will sell more than the BIN.

The BIN was $575 and someone should have jumped on it. Instead, someone place a bid (it's now at .99), and since it was a no reserve auction, the BIN is now gone. My bet is that the selling price will exceed the original $575 BIN, unless someone strikes a deal with the seller. I suspect that the seller will be pleasantly surprised when this auction is over.

There is no month information in those 1987-1996 serial numbers of MIJ guitars as far as I know.

Has anybody here played this model was your question...
Well, we even have a member with the name FG100.

The FA100 was pre-1987 and made by Fuji Gen Gakki.
The FG100 was post-1986 and made by Terada.

They changed the cutaway from Florentine into Venetian.

The FG100 was made from around 1980 to 1987 always in Japan. There's a thread where Acetan compares his FA100 with his FG100. I had an SB FG100 from 1982. One thing I can say in terms of differences between instruments made in different years is... comparing mine (I don't have it anymore) with another one... they had different SBs (mine had a clearer transition while the other had more solid colours.. if you know what I mean.) and the one with solid colours seemed to have a slightly smaller body. (I didn't have the chance to take measurements to confirm that.. so it could be a visual ilusion caused by the SB)

Now, if you can get that FG100NT for under 900 it's worth it... You'll have a very nice guitar for the price. But you might end up wanting to upgrade for a better (more expensive) one in the future... and for that kind of price you'll not have any difficulty selling it... if the market keeps being the way it is, of course..

But that's what I think... You should go there and try it out for yourself.... it's definitely better than some of the new things they're making now.

btw... Bruce Forman's guitar has been discussed here before... more than once... it was a custom made guitar... we could say it's a custom FG100.. with really good wood.

Wildfield, you found it similar to the AF120 because the FG100 shape/body was used as a model for the AF200 AF120, Joe Pass signature model, Metheny's PM20 and others. Actually Pat Metheny plays a single pickup guitar that's is just like another custom FG100 with better appointments. I'll try to post pics...

The neck of the FG100 is really slim but not too narrow, so it's not uncomfortable.

still another difference that I remember is: on the ones with more "solid" SB, the back of the head stock is all black.. while the other one has it the same colour as the neck.

Michael, what happened was this: I checked RussellW's database for the eBay prices and didn't find the FG.
So I assumed the FA was changed into FG at the same moment that the AS Artists changed into AS Artstars.
I shouldn't have assumed, I should have checked.
I was a bit lazy and too soft for the kids who wanted to get behind their mother's laptop.

Anyway, I'm glad you checked. We can't have this assumption living a life of its own.

Greetz,

MK,

You called it...$610 with 5 hours to go.

I can see knocking out a high BIN with a low opening bid but that BIN seemed awfully reasonable.

Oh well, it will be interesting to see what it sells for.
