I just got my Ibanez AK86 Jazz Box back from the shop that installed my EMG 81`s...
WOW...the definition and clearity of the notes and chords is unreal compared to the stock pickups (Which I do like, but wanted to experiment)...!!!
I had it re-wired to 1 volume control and 1 tone control...(I have been playing Telecasters for over 40 years, and just cannot get used to having more than 2 controls on a guitar).
These EMG`s sound best when "Pushed" for leads , but do sound so nice on the Neck pickup for jazz and wonderful sustain for leads on the Neck & Bridge combination.
They look pretty cool to...!!!
If anyone can explain to me how to "Upload/Download" ??? photos on a "Thread" on "ICW", I would really appreciate it. I will try to include a couple of photos for anyone that wants to see the guitar now...

Old Dave,

Here's a link to the ICW instructions on how to load photos. http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/ImageFAQ.html#FAQP ictures

If you have trouble, e-mail the photo(s) to me and I can try and upload them.

Your guitar sounds very interesting. Congratulations. I had IBZ triple magnet pickups in my AM70. Not exactly EMG's I don't think but they are high output, passive humbuckers. They sounded nice (full, dark, warm, jazz-like) when played gently and had a nice growl when you laid into them.

Will be interested to hear your comments on the tonal characteristics of your new EMG's.

Darryl

That looks like one truly unique instrument, there. Have you been able to get any Zakk Wylde-esque pick squeals out of this thing?

Kidding, of course.

Hope you're still enjoyin' the sound, Dave!

Ben

I was playing a bit of "Slide-Guitar" on my AK86 last night (I am not an accomplished slide player to begin with and have never tried slide on the Ibanez, I have always used my `52 Tele RI for noodling around with slide guitar), Wow...!!! The sound I got gave me goose bumps...!!!
These pick-ups sound best when really pushed flat-out, but I do get some different melodic Jazzy tones as well...
I`m going to change the Machine Heads next to some good Grover/Shcaller...??? with Powder-Black Finish and Ebony "Keys"...
I think this will look really good with the Black EMG`s...!!!
This guitar was "Made to Mod" at the price...!!!

Good Luck & Good Music...

*Thanks "Wildfield" for uploading the photos*
