Gentlemen,

I've got Ibanez Artist AM255. It's pristine, not a scratch, ding, dent, or blemish of any kind on it. The case was long lost.

I bought it without its original pickups. Someone put a set of active EMGs in it. I don't know the exact model of EMGs.

I want to restore it to its original condition. I've been checking ebay but no 58s have come up for auction. Where else could I look? What would be fair market value for a set of these? Does Ibanez still make them? If I were to order a new set of these from a dealer would they be exactly the same as the original 58s that came with it in 1983 or do I have to look for an old set? I've called local Ibanez dealers but no one can give me a price. No one has them in stock and I am told they will have to be a special order.

Also, I need an original tremolo bar. I've read, here on this forum, that they were a special kind with a special type of thread, so are difficult to find. Does anyone in America, or in the entire civilized world for that matter, have one for sale?

All answers will be welcome and appreciated.

I'm not the biggest expert here, but I'll step in.

Ibanez still makes Super 58s, and they can theoretically be ordered through any Ibanez dealer (although I've had trouble with some parts at Guitar Center - if they're not in their system, they can't get them) you may have to prod them some, but they should be able to contact Ibanez and get the part. However, the newer 58s may differ from the ones made in the 80s, which would have come stock in your AM255. If you want to keep it original, you may want watch eBay, and post want ads here for an older set. If you do a keyword search here on "super 58" you will find lots of useful information.

Hi Arney,

I have an 83 AM255 that is one of my favorites but I have the tremolo unit blocked so it is fixed in place. I have a pair of 58's but they are from the mid-90's and as Sven said, they are different from the originals even though they "look" the same. As for the trem arm, I may have an extra one, I'll look when I get home to-night.
