Do you know what the pickups are on a '99 AS120. Are they Super 58s? I searched and found nothing.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks, Ginger.

I'm selling my Epi Sheraton II and I'm probably going to get another IBZ. I love my AS120 but another 2nd color might be nice. Then again, an older MIJ semi would also fit.

Any recommendations that would keep me under about $700 USD for a semi?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, there are a couple AS120 artstars on ebay that you can get for under 500.00. I bet you can get them for under 400.00.

I find it interesting, if you're a a player and not a collector (I'm not implying) what's the point in having the same guitar in two colors?

Tristan,

That's a good question. I have an AS120 that has the Super 50 pickups that seem to have shown up for just a year or so in the Samick plant. I really want the Super 58s but I'm not going to swap out mine because they sound great after my scotch adventure.

I'm selling the Epi because it doesn't stand up to the AS120...the Epi's a good guitar but not as good. Sooooooo, I think that I want another IBZ.

You know, I really don't have a great reason except that I really like my AS120.

Stacey,

I really like the mint AS120 but I don't want Gibby pups. I'm watching the other.

Thanks,
Rick

If there are really 2 gold Gibby pups in it, they have a pretty high value. But he's not sure. What I know, is that there is some difference between the MIJ humbucker screws and original Gibson humbucker screws. THEY DON'T FIT INTO EACH OTHER'S THREAD!
I someone buys gold Gibby pups, he normally gets gold screws with it. Not these blacks, like the originals of the AS120. In the close-up of the neck pup I see two different sizes have been used. The one on the bass side is thinner (original MIJ). IMO this would NOT fit into the thread of a Gibby pup. It would fall out.
I see no colour difference in the gold plating. So I think they are original Ibanez Super 58 pups.

AND DID YOU TRY TO READ THE HANDWRITTEN SERIAL NUMBER??? WOOAAAAH!!! He did it again! You tell me what the first character is. There is already a 9 in the fourth position. (I know how his 7 looks like: as short as a 1). So what is this? A P?
Did they start with wide headstocks in September 1996 and was the factory another one than Samick or Cort? (P = Peerless) And if so, was the guy who numbered them by hand working only at Peerless and not at Cort? Was my 1997 hand numbered wolf ear made by Peerless and not by Cort? I'm getting more and more confused. Was this label writer working at Peerless of at Cort? Are there any handwritten serial numbers that start with C? Or just with P and without a letter?

The more we learn, the more we come to the conclusion that we know less than we thought we knew...

How many new partners were involved after Hoshino ended the relationship with Samick?
