Howdy Ibanez players. I humbly request your input on an item I recently came across at a local store near my house.

It is a 1985 AS-80 with a damaged (nikel sized scrape where the plastic is gone) pickgaurd with silver pickups that are scratched. The headstock has a few nicks and dings but not to large. The neck and body are other wise in good condition. The tone and playability was excellent.

The owner is asking $1075 for the guitar.

Do you guys think this is a reasonable deal or should I hunt on ebay?

cheers!

Chris

Hello and welcome to the forum!

MIJ AS guitars are great, but you should consider the fact that with mere 100$ or a bit more you can get yourself a MIJ AS200.
In a mint condition an AS80 would've fetched that amount.
I would say no, just follow ebay for a while, that gives the best price guide.
I have to say that sometimes ebay is totally irrational and prices are going up on Ibanezes (everybody wants one) but still, I think that for that price you could do better.
Again, these are just my thoughts.

Chris, I have an 81 AS50 that I am thinking of selling. It is a sunburst and it's in very nice shape. I bought it from an ICW member.

Thanks for the feedback guys! you do the proverbial rock!

Sabeking, I think I am going to look for a as80 or perhaps a as200 on ebay.

Guitartim, the AS80's you see on gbase.com are Korean ARTSTARS not MIJ birch ply AS80's.

Totally different guitars!

I'd say $700-800 is what it's normally worth, with the damage a 100 less.
