I recently purchased an Ibanez PM-20 (Natural finish) from an acquaintance. I do love it. I had some problems however with noise. Has anyone else ever encountered this issue?
Also, I wondered if $1,100 was a good price for it used of course. Are all PM-20? Korean made? Mine is.

Hey Kaq823,
I don't know a whole lot about the going price for a used PM20 but from what I have read, they seem like decent guitars.
What kind of noise is your PM20 making? Hum, buzz, rattle, electronic? |

PM20 is made in Korea??
When did that start?
Those are really cool guitars. Value depends greatly on condition.
The 'noise' issue should first be taken up with your 'acquaintence' who you purchased it from. If you can be more specific about it here, maybe someone can give you a solution. |

The noise is electronic. It only seems to make it through particular amps. Polytone, Fender tube amps and only past volume of 3. Those were the amps I had. I had a PRS and had no trouble with noise with the PRS and those amps. However, when I tried the Ibanez PM20 through my friends Claris and some very expensive speakers, then no noise. I also tried it through a Peavy Studio Pro II, no noise. So it has been extremely perplexing, different guitars, same amp, no noise, different amps, same guitar, no noise. I finally sold the other two amps and got a Studio II (could not afford the Claris). It has been a long process. I don't have the PRS anymore. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody understans why. That's all. |

Maybe you have experienced ground loop problem? If it is a problem with certain amps, then I don't think it is a problem with guitar... |

When you were at your friends using their amps, were you using the same guitar cord you used at your house when you encountered the problem, or a different one. It could be something as simple as a bad cord and nothing may be wrong with the guitar at all.
I spent 25 years of my life at IBM as a computer operator: during that 25 years I would get called to someone's office to fix a problem. Many times the problem perceived was not really the problem at all. Sometimes the simplest fix was the answer, people would quickly jump to the conclusion it was something very complex that was wrong - when most times it was something mundanely simple. Now I digress and share something with you a Cuban Cigar Board buddy of mine posted - it is great reading.
Judgment and understanding
On occasion, it is useful and necessary to make judgments about what other people do and say. Much of the time, though, it can be a waste of your time and energy. In fact, one of the biggest obstacles to effective listening is the habit of continually and immediately making judgments about what is being said. When the mind is so preoccupied with judging and criticizing, it has no space left for learning and understanding.
Different people have different approaches to life and different opinions. In that diversity there is much value. Yet when you are too quick to pass judgment, you can miss much of that value. When you become too focused on showing how clever you are or proving your point, you can pass up the opportunity to gain real wisdom. Certainly it is appropriate and wise that you exercise judgment to prevent others from harming you or taking advantage of you. Remember, though, to balance that judgment with understanding and acceptance. Relax your judgment and you'll increase your awareness. The more often you practice acceptance, the more wisdom and understanding you'll gain. |
