Just came across this. The BIN price is low and the tailpiece is a nice touch. I don't need one, but someone should jump on this!

Looking nice!
It is my opinion that I experimented with a lot of tail pieces and generally speaking the benedeto
style tail piece don't work well with 16 inch.
The tail piece in the photo meant to be used on the 17 inch.
If you use that tail pice on the 16 inch, the edge of the tail pice gets too close to the bridge. You ended up having less string vibration which affect tone, volume and play feel.
I tryed some beneddeto style tail pieces,a D'aquisto style tail piece,a ES175 brass tail piece on my PM. I decided back to the original stock tail piece, which sounds better than any other tail pieces and the tention is just right as it meant to be.

Eastmongo, that's a whole lot of tailpieces. Did you find that there was a huge difference in tone from one to the next? Did you consider having a shorter wood one made?

I have a 1970's Byrdland for sale - before I advertise it, I'd like an opinion on how much the guitar is actually worth. Its in Mint condition.

Funkel!
I can say those benedetto style tail pieces are basically similar. It doen't matter made by ebony or rosewood.
Acyually, it does matter, but set up and tention is much much important than material of the tail piece.
If you swap the tail piece, the string angle to the bridge and the tention will change.
That is the key and the most important thing than the material or shape, style of the tail piece.
So, I got D'aquisto style tail piece made for 16 inch.
That size is perfect, but still stock brass was better sounding.
It seems to me that the stock brass tail piece vibrate more than some ebony or rose wood tail piece I have tried.
Some tail piece get more tention. Some tail pice less vibrate and decrease overall acoustic volume.
There would be so many factors.
If I can make ebony tail piece by my self, maybe I might get ideal, but just swapping them and hoping to find best one takes so much time.
ES175 tail piece was a liitle bigger than Ibanez stock one. Once again, the stock was better balance, the tone isn't too tense or suffocating,it is relax, enough volume, good vibration through the body and the tail piece...

I looked at a bounch of Eastman guitars because my teacher got his signature model from Eastman.
Those eastman ebony tail piece has brass frame.
Another words,it is brass tail piece decorated by Ebony..

PS ebony tail piece is cool and would sounds nicer than brass, but if you swap from stock tail piece to custom ebony tail piece, you have to deal with a whole a lot of set up issue.

For me the tention is very important, I don't like too much tention but apporopriate tention has to be there. But It is subjective.
Some people prefar more tention. Maybe blues player might prefar more tention than somone just do Jazz. I don't know.
