Hi all, glad to be part of this community. I am the proud new owner of a 1987 blonde FG-100 archtop. It appears to have been gently cared for during its life, and is in excellent condition (though may need a setup). I hope that it and I will have a long and happy musical relationship.

I'd like to get a proper hardshell case for it. it came with an acoustic guitar case of no great quality. I know that the FG100C was the recommended case for it, but my chance of finding one now are probably slim. Are there alternative cases (from Ibanez or elsewhere) that you know of which would fit my FG-100 snugly? I don't plan on travelling with it extensively, so don't need a bomb-proof case.

Another question: does one need to be cautious about humidity levels with a guitar like this (ie. keep it in the case with a humidifier in the winter)? It's all laminate construction so I would imagine it would be fairly impervious to climatic/humidity changes...

Thanks all,
--Robert

The FG100 has dimensions common for 16" archtops. I'm pretty sure the AF guitars share the same dimensions, so you could use an AF100C or AF200C. Maybe someone here with an AF could measure their case.

It's not as sensitive as a nitro finished traditionally assembled guitar, where glues and lacquer will react to these changes. But I think any guitar will be adversely affected by extreme conditions or fluctuations - hollowbodies are a little more sensitive. If you live in a stable climate, don't worry about it.

It is wise to avoid extreme climate changes, i.e. don't keep it in your car on a hot day, or a zub-zero day.

Robert, Funkle is right. AF cases will do. I have both FG100 and AF200. Like you, I bought my FG100 in an acoustic guitar case (it's strong but way too big). I spent a lot of time searching for a better fit but couldn't find anything... as soon as I bought my AF200 I checked if the FG would fit in its case... it does.

Any NEW feedback on the FG-100 case? I've read elsewhere that the AF200 is larger, so how's the fit? "it'll do" or "good"?

Hi Golfshot,

The current Pat Metheny models that Ibanez make use the same body as the FG100. Therefore a Pat Metheney case should do the trick just nicely.

Cheers,

Mark

Golfshot, I have an AF200 and had a FG100. The difference is practcally nothing... Both fit perfectly in the FG case. By the way, the case sold for the AFs originally were the FG100 cases.
