Well, after a few failed attempts to procure the real deal (Ibanez AM), I'm about to order an Artcore AM73 to alleviate my AM GAS. I have two questions - one embarrasing and one...normal I guess.

Question #1: The thing I hate the most about the Artcore guitars is the lightening bolt on the headstock. Any suggestions on how to remove it? (This was the embarrassing question.)

Question #2: I plan to keep this guitar and will be playing it regularly. It is replacing a Telecaster HH FMT (inexpensive Korean model) that I use in a church rock band. Are there any AM73 owners on this bulletin board who have compelling reasons why I should stay away from the AM73?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Here is a solution, just buy my as 80. It still has the price tags on it. None the less don't buy an artcore if you can get a Artstar or Artist. I hate the lightening bolt as well. Reminds me of the KISS crap. But after all Paul Stanley did promote Ibanez right?

Ratfinks3,

Thank you for the offer. I think I'll stick with the AM for now, but I appreciate it. Perhaps you and Mingus2112 can work out a deal.

hey darryl,

i picked up an as73 about a month ago now and i completely agree with you on the lightning bolt thing... SO STUPID!!! but other than that, i love the guitar, especially for the price paid, so instead of making any permanent changes to it, i found some glossy electrical tape and put two strips of it over the emblem in question.

unless you get really close, you can't notice it because it's about the same glossiness as the rest of the headstock overlay, so it works out great for my purposes.

i'm not really sure how this solution will stand the test of time, but if it starts to get weird i can just remove it and scrub away the residue.

maybe this'll help you, that is if you don't end up with asaf's am50...

Darryl,

Would you be interested in an '83 AM255?

Hi Ace,

Thanks for your offer.

As a matter of fact, I found an AM70 - the one that was on e-Bay a couple weeks ago. I guess the original winning bidder did not come through. I received a second chance offer late last week and finalized the purchase a couple days ago. It should be here on Wednesday.

I hate to confess what I paid for it but at the end of the day, I thought I'd rather have a MIJ AM than the newer Artcore AM73. Ironically, the AM73 that had been back ordered through MF suddenly shipped the same day I PayPal'ed the AM70.

Anyway, I'll try to post something when the guitar arrives next week. Thanks again for your offer but I think GAS has been (temporarily) relieved.

Best regards,
Darryl

Hi Darryl,

Let us know how you like the AM70. It is kind of a rare bird.

Ace
