Hi people, newbie here so be gentle with me if this is a dumb question. I'm after a jazz box. Been looking (only online at the mo) at an AF105 (twin humbucker version) and an AF195. Is there much / any difference between them? The AF195 has rosewood pickup surrounds, different finish obviously, other than that???

I would love to try an AG195 also, but don't think they ever made it to the UK. If anyone knows any different I'd be very interested to hear the story.

This place is a really great resource, learned loads already.

Much appreciated y'all.
Dave.

Hi Dave,

The group here is pretty friendly and helpful - don't think anyone will be rough. :-)

I have only played the AF105 once or twice at a shop. I owned an AG195 and have not been able to find an AF195 in a local shop, so I have never played one.

At a glance and in addition to the differences you have already identified, the AF195 will have Ibanez Super 58 humbuckers instead of IBZ Custom 58's. I think the Super 58's will be darker sounding - personally I prefer the Super 58's.

The other major difference in my opinion is the neck. The feel of the Artcore Uniteds are much better than the Artcore. Very subjective, but that is my opinion. The AF195's neck is crafted in Japan and final assembly in Ibanez' factory in Japan. The Artcore Uniteds feel and play better than the Artcore models made in China, in my opinion.

You might do a couple of searches on this board using keywords like "AF195", "AF105", etc. I think there has been a lot of discussion and you'll probably dredge up some great information.

Good luck in your search.

Cheers wildfield, appreciated.
Have been dredging, useful info found. I guess I just have to try them out. The search is on for a UK dealer with an AF105 and AF195. Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers,
Dave.

I've played them both back to back, and the AF195 is my preference. They are both similar guitars, but the AF195 excels in the quality dept. The AF105 was nice but could stand a good setup. No setup needed on the 195 - one of the best playing guitars I've tried.

Is the AF195 a current production and, if so, where can I get a hold of one?

It was only made in 2004 for one year. If you look hard enough, you may find a new-old-stock somewhere. I got the AG195 and AF195 from Guitar Trader on close-out just before they're all gone. Great guitars both.

If you try Goggling (stupid word) you may still find a few sellers who are advertising AF/AG 195, but try emailing them to see if they have it in stock first--sometimes they don't update their webpages. The Guitar Trader page says they are temporarily out of stock, but give them a call anyway and ask for Steve--he's the guy who told me Ibanez had a few of these models left and ordered me one when they were out of stock the last time.

If not, there's always Ebay. Here's an auction from earlier this month:

I currently own an AG 195, and I knew nothing about this guitar until I read about it here. Everything that has been said about it here (Sven, Wildfield, Ace, etc.) is completely accurate, and although I bought mine NOS at closeout price, I would venture to say it would still be a good deal if it commanded much higher prices...and it may in the future.:-)

Atoee, do a keyword search on "AG195" and "artcore united". There has been lots of discussion on these guitars.
