As80 with super50<==== super50 ???

I wonder if they're marked on the backside. I will have a look then. but, in every Ibanez catalogue from this era they speak of "super50", while the as200 an others have super58. I think it's no mistake. it's not only mentioned in one year... I'd suggest you post your question in the Jim Donahue section. It may take a while for him to respond, but he should know something about it. It looks like they appeared on the Artstar 80 and 120 series guitars in '94-'96. Since these were the budget models, which were made in Korea, it stands to reason that these were less expensive Korean versions of the popular Japanese Super 58. Whether or not they have warm sounding Alnico magnets like the 58s, or cheaper ceramic is hard to know. There was never anything mentioned about them in the catalogs, and they were replaced by Super 58s in '96. I would guess that they introduced the Korean version of the Super 58 that year, which replaced the Super 50 on the lower end guitars. How similar it is I don't know, but I know that some people prefer the Japanese Super 58 to the Korean one. Super 58s are too hard to get, and don't sound any better than some of the aftermarket PAFs. After a set, crank the gain and speak the following words into your pickups: "Thank you very much; we'll be back after a break." If you have both humbuckers engaged with a little delay and reverb, the vocal tone can be smoother than an SM58. It was made in Korea and has great tone. I had an AS73 for about 3 month's,untill I ran into this one at a local shop. This AS80, IMO makes the AS73 sound very bad. I'm very happy with this guitar and the sound of the pickups. Oh ya, I had microphonic pickups in a guitar and it took me a couple of days to figure out what that ticking noise was..........my watch! I've never played the 58s before... hmm... I use a J-Station... any of my guitars sounds good with it (a mid 70s Ibanez Lawsuit Strat and a Kramer Voyager with Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck's)! just like this AS80. as I said, it doesn't sound too bad, but they can't be better than the 58s. the action isn't that good I expected. needs a technician. stays in tune very well. I don't mind. I've just bought in a local store a pair of 58s. they are from an 1986 am205. they have those 3-hole mounting holes and are not splitable (2 cables).
