They are Artcores, but they're still fun to look at :-)

Agreed - very nice looking. Wonder if and when they will hit the U.S. market. The only thing I don't like is their lightning bolt logo. Wonder why they picked that logo for this series?

A slightly different "Lightning Bolt" logo first appeared on Pat Metheny Models. It just "evolved" maybe?

Is that a fine-tune tailpiece on the AS103?

I wish Ibanez would make some higher end versions of these..they all look great, but all the artcore's I've played leave something to be desired...they are great axes for the money, though...

They did make the United series but the responses were not good enough to keep them in production. I think companies nowadays don't have the luxury to wait a long time for their new ideas to get warmed up like before when the pace of doing business was slower.

Man, that AS103 looks oh so sweet...I'd trade my AS120TR for it in a heartbeat.

According to the webpage, the PUs are Super 58s.

Is it me, or does anyone else find the pickguard on the AS105 to be fugly?

Yeah, the Uniteds looked really cool. I was waiting for the following years NAMM show to check one out and they were discontinued before the show. Oh well!

I must disagree with you Sven, I think that pickguard is Bugly, and you meant AS103, didn't you?

Sure, they are called: GB10 and JSM100!

I'd like to see Ibanez produce a mid-level semi-hollow or solidbody model series, just below the Prestige series.

Ace, Bugly? OK...

"I'd like to see Ibanez produce a mid-level semi-hollow or solidbody model series, just below the Prestige series."

I think that's what the Artcore Custom, the 103 and 105 series guitars are supposed to be. They are priced between the Prestiges and the regular Artcores. And they have a decent quality level. Unfortunately it's not a reality anymore to produce them in Japan.

My observation is that the quality of Chinese made Ibanezes has steadily improved over the last few years. I've noticed a difference of built quality between a 2003 and a current Artcore. Maybe over time, it will approach those of the vintage Japanese productions. By 2010 perhaps?

Hi, new member here.
Just bought AS103. So far, I can't find any flaws.
Plays well, sounds fine, stays in tune.

I'm not a pro player by any standards but in my opinion this is a very well made guitar. I do have a Gibson LP Classic and Gibson Lucille. IMO this guitar plays just as well.

A decent reasonably priced guitar from China?
Gotta say yes :-)

Regards,
edgehill

Congratulations on the new axe. In which country did your purchase your AS103? I'm just curious if they are available from resellers outside of Japan.

Hope you will enjoy your new guitar.

According to this website, the AS103 will be available by early spring. As much as I like my Artstar AS120TR, I'd much rather have the AS103 instead.

I got a feeling...if I meet a AS103NT in person, she might have to come home with me. Yes, Ibanez is on the right track in 2006.

I played all of these at NAMM. Pretty nice gutiars. The AGS83 finish is stunning. I wish Ibanez would make the AS103 and AF105 in non natural finishes...

Anyone notice the disappearing of the AF85VLS and the new AF86VLS?
