After two years of separation I got back my GB30. There she was, standing on the dust and waiting for me in the same small shop where i left her. Ever happened to someone?
After a full polishing, restringing and setupping, put her aside my AS200. What a couple! I immediately began to compare the tone of these two guitars (same strings, neck pickup only). First, and big, surprise: to my ear the GB30, although more dark sounding, has a more immediate, electric feel to it. I'll be back on this when the strings break in a little.
This guitar,as GBs always do, has a fast, comfortable neck (although the AS200 neck is a miracle of fastness and comfort). The GB30 is superior in terms of lightness and ergonomics, it can be played very well seated or standing. The AS200 really kills my back!
I think that the GB30 is one of the great Ibanez originals, I put two threads on that two years ago. The new Artcores are very similar and more eye-candy; I cannot stop wondering how nice a brown sunburst, flame top GB30 would be.

Note how the binding has yellowed to an amber/almost brownish tone. I don't know why some finishings behave like this. My '87 GB10NT had a similar "yellowishness" to it. Maybe it has something to do with the amount of time the instrument remains locked in the case, or vice-versa.
The GB30 stands out very well against my AS200. Tonewise is maybe a little less complex, but is has a very nice evenness of tone thoughout the fretboard. The neck is really comfy, ideal for fast jazz comping, octave soloing et al.
I'm taking this guitar to rehersals and it's easy getting used to it's very manageable size and weight.

very nice looking. i think all the gb series are well made. the binding on the f holes with the black body is stunning. i ve tuned pianos for 34 yrs and i've found Japanese pianos the best for the dollar. Ibanez guitars seem no different.

Hey guys, you're so gentle.

• Funkle, I'm in the process of recording a demo and will post something asap... unfortunaely I can't do it at home...
• Guitartim, the body's depht is 1 3/4" at the borders.

Believe it or not, my AS200 is sleeping more and more in it's case (although I do like it) and it's absolutely no "new guitar syndrome" wich makes me prefer this GB. It's really a player's axe, and probably a keeper.
