I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm, I'm as jumpy as puppet on a string
I'd say that I had spring fever, but I know it isn't spring
I am starry eyed and vaguely discontented, like a nightingale without a song to sing
O why should I have spring fever, when it isn't even spring

I keep wishing I were someone else, walking down a strange new street
And hearing words that I've never heard from a girl I've yet to meet
I'm as busy as spider spinning daydreams, spinning spinning daydreams
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing

I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud, or a robin on the wing
But I feel so gay in a melancholy way, that it might as well be spring
It might as well be spring.

there is a new Mod coming.....details soon...

i just found a FG100 for a very very good price
because its a model which you can take a risk , i just stripped the guitar completely.

This will be the mod:

1. Fill up all the holes except the upper Volume and Tone poti

2. Move the neck pick-up against the neck (gibson L5 style) remove the back pick-up and fill up that hole.

2.little bit of neck-shaving...(backside)

3.New Ebony Fretboard with the same frets as my FA100 mod.

4.Ebony tailpiece (bennedetto)

5.looking for a warm jazz humbucker (no floating)

6.remove the finish and repaint it a different color................

7. Ibanez (Gotoh) Pearl machineheads .

I know its crazy but till so far all my modifications resulted in a much better guitar....

will start in the middle of march, found a company which will do the job....

He Petruz the F-holes they stay ofcourse, i was looking for a cheap FG100 for a long time to "Mod"
now its here, the guitar will be a copy of the Wes Montgomery L5 model...there is a photo of Wes smoking a cigarette and holding this guitar, i have it on the cover of a hard to find vinyl WES's Best (America 30 am 6092) 1960 France. Its a great record.
only the colour will be different.

Artfield:

You are the "king of the mods". If anyone can pull it off, it's you.

Would love to see photos of the work in progress. So, how are you going to hide the patches to the top for the old pickups?

Have you choosen a color yet? Purple, blue, transparent black?

"only the colour will be different. "

...let me guess :-)

"the guitar will be a copy of the Wes Montgomery L5 model."

only it will be 16" wide vs. 17" for the L5.

You guys are all pretty daring IMO. If I could only figure out this whole guitar playing thing, maybe then I'd get brave enough to do start doing some modding.

Fooks..i will keep you all informed if its possible, this will depend on the luthier who is gonna do the job, as i told you earlier, will start modding half march .

"JohnS" thanks, sometime you just have to take some risk.... with some good shaving and maybe some sanding and than ofcourse a good spray job you won't see those holes.. no color yet...i have been visiting some guitar companies color charts to get some inspiration...

"Funkle" this time no purple...these models are a bit smaller as you wrote ..hopefully with a good pick-up i could come close soundwise ,i have heard some good stories about these: http://www.haeussel.com/

"Ace" just do it find a cheap ibanez and start modding....by the way they have at my favourite music store overhere in The Netherlands (Dirk Witte)a complete ruined Ibanez Artist model for sale..http://www.dirkwitte.nl just send them an email, its waiting for a "mod job"

Patrick,

I've heard Kent Armstrong makes some great jazz pickups - not the korean ones they sell at WD, but the ones he winds by hand. I have his contact info if you're interested.

Hey Pat,

How about pink this time? There's a pink strat at the plus right now if you're curious to see how a guitar in that finish would look :-)

Oh I forgot, which song are you quoting in your initial post?

"Oh I forgot, which song are you quoting in your initial post?" - Johnm

I believe the tune quoted is "It Might As Well Be Spring".

Artfeld - I have commenced with my own extreme makeover. I am making some modifications to my AM70 which I purchased a few months ago. I really like the guitar alot as it is. The stock IBZ triple magnet pickups are a lot of fun, especially for a guy who grew up in the 70's but missed out on a lot of rock music. Those pickups really get some great rock tones.

Be that as it may, I'm going to convert it into more of a jazz guitar. I stripped out the pickups and wiring. I've purchased some nice Seymour Duncan '59 p/u's with gold covers. I have also purchased some new volume and tone pots. I'm going to reconfigure the wiring a little and will incorporate a blend pot. So, both p/u's will share a volume pot, there will be separate tone pots and then a blend (pan) pot for when the 3-way switch is in the middle position.

I've also ordered a Tone Pros tune-o-matic with graph tech saddles and inserts. I purchased a scaled down Benedetto-style ebony tailpiece and rosewood pickup rings. At some point I'll get around to ordering some tuners, but I haven't figured out what I want yet.

Basically, I've pulled the original shortstop bridge post inserts and plugged the holes. When I receive the Tone Pros, I'll re-drill the holes for the inserts (to the proper width) and use larger gold washers to cover the plugs. I have a plan B that I think will look better than the gold washers, but it will take a lot of time so I may go back and do it later.

That's about it. I'll try to post pics when I complete most of the work, so you all can judge if I've created a disaster or a function semi hollow jazz guitar.

As for the IBZ triple magnets, I put them into a Malden Holly Kaiser which is an inexpensive semi hollow guitar, fashioned in the style of a PRS. They still sound great in that guitar, and I'm playing that guitar quite a lot (especially since the AM70 is up on blocks).

If anyone needs a short stop bridge, give a holler.

Hi Guys,

Today i brought 3 guitars to Dutch Luthier Patrick Koopman.

1.On my Black Ragtime Special there will a pick-up system added with a 9 volt battery and an EQ section. The backside of the neck will be shaved a little and sprayed black.Fretboard will be cleaned and frets checked.I'm sure playability will improve.

2. My AM66 will be modded...( relax Funkle) it will be a simple mod, new Gold Ibanez/Gotoh Pearl machineheads, I just bought through internet an orginal Gold Shortstop Bridge (never used) it will replace the chrome one.
Probably a pick-up replacement, potis will stay the same and instead of the 3 way switch there will be a 6 way rotary instead.
Guitar wil get a new spray job it will be my favourite color...

3. FG100 will be moded L5 style...this might take a while..Mr Koopman and i will discuss later the details.

All 3 mods will come out fine.

For those interested i will keep you informed about the progress.

Patrick Koopman copied for a client of him my Blue Ibanez AM205...the job came out really beautiful, incredible ....the pics are to big to post overhere.
