i recently purchased a very nice AS 73. im totally blown away with the action, feel, sound, and look of the guitar, then, another one came my way, an AS83, this guitar isnt set up yet, but very nice flame and it seems a little different in sound acoustically, im hoping for the best, any one like to chime in on these unsung 335 clones? |

i've already done my fair share of "chiming" about my AS73, but what could it hurt to say a little more!? i'm not much of a flame maple guy, so the 73 was just what i was looking for- a rock/blues/jazz machine that could have that great woody tone but still handle distortion and other effects like they're nothin'. for 300 bucks, you cannot beat this guitar in the semi-hollow (or in my opinion ANY) category.
i've been thinking of putting a roller bridge on it... has anyone done this or have any information on the real benefits of a roller bridge? |

Benito, I think the real advantage of a roller bridge would be to reduce string breakage. You'll get a noticable improvement in tone from installing a LOCKING bridge - either a TonePros or a GabralterII, or JSM bridge.

alright, a locking bridge might be something to check into in the future.. haven't had any problem with breaking many strings yet, so i think the roller bridge is something i can live without.
oh, one thing that i've been noticing more and more about my AS 73-
at full volume, i'm getting this nasty, sloppy distortion sound out of the pickups when i strum a little harder without any effects on at all. and i don't mean "nasty" in a good, bluesy way. when i roll the volume back to about '7' then it's fine, and sounds good, considering the ceramic pickups. i don't have any interest or finances for changing pickups, so this is fine with me, as long as i'm not damaging something.
anyone else have this happen with their ACH humbuckers? is this a problem that i should look into fixing?

You're not doing any harm when they're distorting. I have a fairly new AS-73. I found the pickups to be awful but I expected them to be at that price. I threw them out and replaced them with DiMarzio PAFs. Bingo, new guitar. Really good guitar, in fact. |

okay, as long as i'm not wrecking anything, i'm alright. i'm not too discriminating when it comes to tone, so these pickups will be just fine for the time being. i'll just have to keep a close watch on my volume knobs. |
