I tweaked my nearly new AS-73 with DiMarzio PAFs and a little bridge work, and it sounds terrific: bluesy, versatile, clean, solid as a rock. But more recently, about the same time I got a few extra bucks, I got bad GAS for an AS-50. Result: my '81 AS-50 with Gibson PAFs arrived today. As a regular acoustic player, I'm a tone freak; but I am blown away, BLOWN away, by the sound of this AS-50. It's got the authentic fat and sweet like nothing I've ever had in my hands. For the first time, I understand that guys who claim their vintage Ibanez sounds better than any Gibson are not exagerrating. This guitar is amazing. My AS-73, with a total investment of $500 or so, is a great guitar, but wow, there's a difference.

These early AS50's are amazing guitars. I love mine.
