Hi! I'm new here.

I just bought an 1986 AS80 on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7393802524&rd=1&sspagename=ST RK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
I am really excited about it. I have been a F****r guy forever, but I have been secretly coveting one of these since forever.

not a bad find, mando

i'm right with you in the recovering f---er players' club. i didn't go for the full made in japan thing, but ever since i picked up my AS73, my strat's been spending most of its time gathering dust or being played by others.

i actually plugged my strat in a couple days ago and realized once again why it's barely been touched.. the thing's just dead sounding. all treble, no meat to it.

enjoy the beautiful tones you'll be getting with that AS80.

That's a very good price for an MIJ AS80. You did good.

Benito, a strat can sound wonderful. Only sometimes the best strats are not strats at all :-)

nice grab, I saw the guitar on ebay and thought somebody would get a good deal on it. Also, thanks for your interest in my AM. Enjoy the as80!

funkle,

it's true, strats can and do sound great, but only in the hands of a player whose style fits with the instrument.

when i bought mine, it was pretty much because of its name and its 'classic' look (i suppose hendrix could have been an influence too, since it's olympic white with the big fat late 60s/70s headstock ). the guitar just doesn't suit my style, that's all.

i didn't mean to offend anybody who may play and enjoys their strat or another guitar with similar characteristics. they're fine guitars, just not for me.

I was waiting for that :-)

This is what converted me to a strat fan:

A radio station with a definite strat bent.
