This is my first Ibanez - a 1986 MIJ AS80.

What a fantastic guitar. It has a great neck and tone to die for - even through the Kalamazoo model 2 practice amp I use around the house. I can't wait to crank up the Marshall over the weekend.

It is heavy, though (probably contributing to its tone). The neck pickup is a bit louder than the bridge PU. Anyone else have this problem?

glad you're enjoying your new axe, Mando.

i don't have much knowledge on this particular model or anything, and this may sound stupid, or could be something you've already tried, but on my AS73, i had to adjust the neck pickup quite a bit further from the strings than the bridge pickup to even out the volume, as seen in this picture.

pickups

maybe that helps, maybe it doesn't. that's all i can think of in my limited knowledge.

good luck!

oh, could you put a few pictures of your new score on the forum for us? i know i'd love to see it

Congratulations on the "new" axe.

I'm not an expert on the proper adjustment of pickups but I typically dial the tone in on the nec by raising/lowering. After the neck p/u seems nice adjusted, I adjust the height of the bridge p/u so that the volume roughly matches the neck. Not sure if this is the standard procedure, but it seems to work out okay for me.

Good luck and post a pic or two if you have time.

I may have a little adjustment left. I hate to get the bridge pickup too close to the strings. I'll let you know how it works.
