Here's a video of John Scofield (playing his AS200), Pat Martino (playing his signature Gibson model) and Joey DiFrancesco (playing a Hammond B3 of course!) and an un-named badass drummer.

Hope you can view and hear the entire video. They really swing playing "Sunny". Enjoy!

Wow, what a great video.

You can really see the contrast between Pat and John's styles.

Pat and Joey, both, will be playing separately at Yoshi's in Oakland within the next few weeks! I know I'm going to see at least one of them. Your video is VERY timely. Thanks...

I found myself looking for that funky bass player. It was all Joey, even during his right hand soloing! What a talent!

Must make one of the Yoshi's shows!!

I'd be up for that. Maybe a NARCAL chapter get-together?

Hey, I'd like to see Pat. Ah heck, I've never seen John Scofield - I'd like to see him too.

If you are interested, here's the lineup:

Pat Martino March 30 - April 2
Joey deFrancesco April 6 - April 9
John Scofield April 12 - 16

I usually go about once a month with a growing group of friends - last month, 10 of us went to see Steve Tyrell. Great show. For that matter, I've never seen a bad show at Yoshi's (maybe because I pick the shows I attend?) LOL

I got a bit bored with Martino's solo, especially at the end. Don't take that wrong, I am a fan of his playing, but man, pick another lick out of the trick book, will ya??!!!

I am going to see the one and only George Benson in Dayton this sunday, that will be the concert of my lifetime!!! (27 yrs)

Always enjoy George! I think I saw him in 1969 at a little dive bar in Youngstown that was called Mickey's. At least, I have a memory that says the guy on the tiny little stage was George. I don't know what I thought then. Things were a little hazy back in the day, if you know what I mean.

I'm up for any of the shows, but will definitely catch the Scofield show. I usually go to the early Wed or Thursday show.

Cmangeot, He was definitely pushing it with that lick, but that is a common device in that genre, and Pat pulls it off better than just about anybody.

Funkle,

Yeah, we all know what Pat Martino is capable of, I have studied every inch of his instructional videos, he is phenominal and repeating yourself is inevitable, but for over a minute... NAH!!

At least he as a musical concept,a sound and a style.....1000 stars for him and SCO too.....
even if he would play that lick 1 million times...
hands down for him........glad he could continue his playing after the sickness he had.Check out the old version of "Sunny" of one of his old records.

Try downloading the whole to to harddrive, THEN play it back. You may be able to receive in broadband, but it sounds like your processor isn't absolutely capable of realtime play.

That badass drummer is Byron "Wookie" Landham, Joey's regular drummer.

I've see Joey 5-6 times in the Boston area, twice with Pat Martino. Talk about Joey's left hand! The first time I saw Joey and Pat was at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA. Byron didn't show up - they never explained why, just that they hoped he was all right. Joey kept the tempo rock steady all night with his left hand.

I read an inteview with him where he was asked about his left hand technique and how he can sustain complex bass lines while he solos. He said that his left hand "just plays", he doesn't think about it.

On this video he is also kicking the pedals, supplementing his left hand. Notice the part of his solo where he is slapping chords on the upper manual with both hands - the bassline doesn't stop.

I recommend seeing him any chance you get, regardless who he is playing with. Well worth it.

Yeah, Joey is awesome. I was front row at a show to see his trio in Portland, Maine last summer.

I liked Martino's trick lick! If he had a different timbre, he could have sounded like a sequenced synth. Of course the Skoman was great.

Thanks for sharing this link, Tim.

Benson was AMAZING last night. He played a GB12, and a blonde GB10 for most of the numbers. He is incredible, as always.
