Does anybody know what this is?
Is it for making the guitar more feedback resistent?
Should I remove it?

post
Thanks.

No opinions?
Does anybody have experience with this type of thing?
I know that in cellos (as well as in violins), a too long sound post will be too tight causing, very often, the top to crack. Of course it can take many years to happen. There are many old instruments (and some new too) with cracks on the top just above the sound post (just behind the bridge). It's not uncommon to see reinforcements...

I think I'll remove it. It doesn't look very healthy. If it was for feedback purposes, well...

I don't think it would change the sound in a bad way, would it?
Opinions, please?

Thanks a lot.

... When I saw it I thought... hummmm, it probably passed by the hands of our friend from Ams. :-)

About the post... I don't like the idea of having the vibration damped... I think it's a cheap solution (no offence) since it'll certainly change the tone. However, the one used on Beck's guitar is much more delicate and professionally made. The one on the pic above looks like somebody took a random piece of wood and stuck it there.

FG100:

If the previous owner was playing Rockabilly, then he was probably trying to cut down on vibration and the resulting feedback at louder volumes. So the soundpost would make sense.

I agree. So, taking it off is not going to do any harm, righ?

Artfield, I got it here in Holland. The guy bought it to start lessons but he prefers acustic guitars. He drove it here (to Den Haag). My plan is... I'm removing the paint... so far I got to the original color of the headstock. No logo under... After I finish removing all the paint it will depend on what I find under. If it's nice wood I'll make it natural, if there's enought of the original colors/finish, I'll try to recover it. Otherwise I'm thinking in make it black. As for the pickups.. I'm thinking in leaving just the neck one. I might look for another pickup to try. Well... it's still a bit vague... I'll see.
Here it's a pick of the head in progress (the before is on another thread)

I bought it because it was cheap, so I could experiment with. If I make it black I might try an ebony tail piece, balck strap holders, tuners, pickup covers... just to have it all black.

I get confused with so many colors. Better not to spend too much time looking at them.

I thought about having gold hardware but on a second thought... why not simply all black...

Black 175 ... Gib made some, Benedetto too.

I've bought some stuff from Vox Humana. Do you know the quality of their work (painting)?

Thanks for all the info and comments.
