I'm not sure this topic is appropriate for the ICW but I thought I'd post this anyway.

I recently purchased 2 Raezer's Edge speaker cabinets. One is a NY8 - single 8 inch driver at 8ohms and 225 watts. The other is a Stealth 10 - single 10" driver at 8ohms and 225 watts as well. Both speaker cabs have a closed back design with 2 bass ports and an internal sound shelf.

If you like a very warm, dark jazz guitar tone, you might be interested to check out Raezer's Edge. I can see why many folks rave about these cabs. My AG195 with Super 58's sound superb through both of these units.

Just thought I'd share the love. :-)

What amp head do you drive the cabs with.

I'm using a Clarus 1R. Just the Clarus through the RE cab sounds nice.

I started experimenting by putting a Tech 21 SansAmp GT2 in front of the Clarus. Sometimes this helps to warm up the tone nicely. Trouble is, the tone seems elusive with the GT2 in the signal chain.

That's one of the things I don't like about pedals. You can dial it in at a certain volume level, but as soon as you have to turn up or down, all bets seem to be off.

Its an interesting sound but for some reason one that I had difficulty getting used to. I tried several Clarus heads and all seemed much too dry or dark to me. But then sometimes I liked the tone, the size is really unbelieavable for the headroom you get.

Are they still making the Raezers since the death of the founder?

Jeff Hale at Hale Music has purchased the rights to the brand. From what I have heard, he is using all of the original drawings/designs to produce the exact same line up of cabinets. Here's a link to Hale Music's website. http://www.jhalemusic.com/pages/raezersEdge.html

J.Hale is pretty cool. Have you ever checked out Legato Guitars? http://www.legatoguitars.com/

If you leave the inventory search field blank and "all" in the type field and hit search you can see their entire e-inventory. Some nice stuff.

I have an Acoustic Image Clarus 1A and a Raezer's Edge 12ER cab. I love this setup for jazzy cleans! Great sound and power to spare in a portable package. I mostly use it with my AM205 or AS50, but with the cab's "Extended Range" tweeter turned on, it's also an excellent acoustic guitar setup. Unfortunately, I have yet to use this amp/cab with a real archtop. I hear that's where it really shines.

One thing I learned the hard way is that I can't really get a good distortion sound out of it using pedals; so far I've tried a Rat and a Barber Direct Drive - both didn't work for me.

Have any of you managed to get a good distortion sound out of this setup? Maybe I need to try some other pedals or just stick to using my Allen Accomplice tube amp for those types of sounds.
