Hey all,

I currently have an '83 AM-205, but i have been really impressed with the newer Ibanez hollow/semi-hollows. Does anyone have any recommendations for a "new" inexpensive jazz box style Ibanez?

Thanks,
Brian

Define "inexpensive", please. My personal choice was the AF105F, which I bought used (previously owned, but never played - still had the tags and stickers, from EBAY for $500, including shipping from NYC. I'm very very pleased with it and can only hope that I would be smart enough to recognize such a good deal as I got if another should come my way. I play it more than any other electric, and even unplugged, I play it as much as my Martin.

The new artcores are awesome. What kind of sound no you want?
AF: Full and stringy
AG: Dark and compressed
AK: Bright and funky

What style of jazz do you play?
Fusion?
Straight-ahead?
Avant-garde?
Contemporary?

The AF's are top-notch for straight-ahead, but it would be a stretch to use them for other styles. The AS can do straight-ahead, but they are more versatile since can also cover fusion and other "variations" of jazz styles as well(not too mention rock/blues).

Well,

I don't really play much Jazz, but i'd like to get into it more. I currently play mostly funk/rock.

I guess i'd be looking for something versitile, but geared towrds fusion stuff...

I'd probably keep my eyes open for an AS 193.

The AS will be your best bet if you want to play with any distortion. Maybe a little close to your AM though. A little fuller sounding.

I say go down to your local store and try them all out, they all have very different personalities, which are hard to describe. I gravitated very quickly towards the AG series.

Agreed. The AS73 & AS83 would bet your best bet. I have the AS120TR and although it cranks out some sweet mellow jazz tunes, the WD7 and TS7 brings out its rock/funk side very nicely. The AM's are nice too, they just have a smaller body.
