Another "prototype" ???

No decals no serial. http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7421007755 The seller tells that he bought it from a Jazz player in Cologne in 91 and Ibanez built it for the 1st owner in 79, as a prototype of the GB. Well, I have no idea, but I'm sceptical. Not so much of the seller who offers buyers a chance to test it in person, but Ibanez shure seem to build a heck of a lot of prototypes of their top end instruments which end up on ebay. Did anyone ever make copies of the GB? Just asking. ps. Usual disclaimers ... no, its not mine. Nor do I think I want to risk buying it. If Ibanez didn't make it, they should have and some Artcores have that look now. Looks like it's very well made, though some of the purfling lines seem a little messy. That hasn't always been the strongest point of Ibanezes anyway. If I lived close by, I would be tempted to give it a test drive, whatever it is! But one should try to check it! Other possibilities: 1) Someone tried an alternative personal headstock inlay, the next owner had it removed and had a new headstock overlay applied. (But that wouldn't explain the missing serial no. on a post '75 guitar). 2) The neck was totally broken and replaced by a local luthier. (Same procedure as a neck reset, only with a totally new handmade neck). This would explain the missing inlay and serial no. Also in that case, it's still a nice player. Try it! Good luck! Too many fundamental things are wrong with the guitar for it to be an Ibanez factory-made item. For instance, the shape of the cutaway and horn is way off. To my eye, it seems that the ratio of upper bout to lower bout size is off, too. They look more like the ones you see on German guitars. When I saw it the first thing that came to my mind was that the body shape looked a bit like the Epiphone Joe Pass. F.
