In 1997 the GB100 was discontinued. But Wildfield, with all respect, you gave a seller's answer to a buyer's question. If you offer a USA guitar for $2,200.- a European buyer would pay $1,617.65 at an exchange rate of 1:1.36 So I guess it was bought by a European guy. Did I guess right? Mine was a 2001 GB100 in pristine condition. I purchased it new in Hong Kong for US$1590 (HK$12,000). "Seller's answer to a buyer's question"? Sorry - I didn't understand this comment. My intention was to give one example of what a GB100 sold for in 2004. That's a different question than: "What can I ask for this guitar in the present market situation?" It's a different approach. You managed to sell it a 2200 dollars, which is 88% of the 1993 list price and 84.6% of the 1986, a remarkably GOOD result. If a Dutch guy sees this price, his calculation says "Hey, that's only 62% of the 1993 Dutch list price, so that's a bargain!" I'm surprised to read that your guitar was a 2001, because it was not in the USA pricelists any more since 1997. That it was still in production in 2001 is interesting info. BTW, I totally missed the 2004. I thought you were talking 2006. That makes your deal even BETTER. You're a good businessman. Played 3 years and gained $600.- That's the way to do it! I guess they continued to offer it in Asia after they discontinued it in other markets. I do understand Mike's original question. I do not know the answer. I offered my experience as an example of what another buyer was willing to spend. At one time I wanted to buy an AM50 for $500. I kept losing auctions because they would sell for $700 to $1,000. Based on the selling prices, I had to decide for myself if I was willing to spend more. And there is always the "fallen-in-love-factor". Saltapaya paid $1499.- for an AM50. And the GB20 is a guitar to fall in love with. For non-vintage guitars, 1/2-2/3 is normal. For a MIJ Ibanez that's 2/3 (66.7%) but 70%-75% is sometimes necessary to shake off the competition. 84-88% is an excellent example of a "fallen-in-love" buyer. In order to decide how far you should go, you should be able to look inside the heads of the competition, if there is any. Until now nobody took the BIN option and nobody placed a bid.
