Hello All,
I have been researching one of my guitars on this great site. I think I have it nailed down but am not 100% sure from the pickups. I believe it is a 1975 2460 L5 CES Pre Law suit. No serial # and no label. It is a great guitar and I will be parting with it soon. I want to make sure I have my facts right.

Yep! You have one wonderful 2460 there and the pickups are as original as the complete guitar itself!

how long is the scale? and how wide is the nut? |

I am not entirely sure how to measure this, its 20 frets
17 & 1/2 inch neck. 1 & 3/4 inch wide at nut. Or there abouts. |

That's a beautiful guitar you have there. What country are you in?
Scale length is the distance from the nut to the bridge. With a moveable bridge, like this, it can also be determined by measuring from the nut to the 12th fret and then doubling the measurement. |

I guess the scale then is about 25 & 1/4.

I have had the guitar since 1986. It is a great guitar. I need to fund some other equipment and I just don't play straight ahead Jazz much anymore. I have a beautiful AS200 that I play when I do. The two that have been sold on Ebay are

but I don't know when they were sold.
In Holland someone has been offering one for €2500.= for several months, but this attempt wasn't successful yet.
I hope you know what you're doing. It won't be easy to get such a beautiful piece back, when you start regretting the sale. So make sure you make a good price. Don't offer it without a reserve, because it is at least as valuable as your AS200. I guess it must hurt to part with it.
I hope you win the lottery instead.

That (Gagnon?) ebony bridge picture looks the wrong way round, and when you turn the pic around, it still looks like the bridge is fitted wrong. The compensation on a set of strings with a wound G should show a consistent forward stagger from E through A, D and G, then a fall back for the plain B, with the top E a bit further forward (are you still with me? Stay awake at the back). Surely it can't have been sounding in tune with itself with that setup?
I'm just moaning 'cos I've got no money left, then this guitar comes up! |

That's about €2200.=
So the Dutch one is perhaps not as much overpriced as it looked.
This one is "pre-lawsuit"/ Gibson open book headstock. So is the guitar in Utrecht.
The two in the database are 1977, Guild tulip headstock.
I must honestly say the headstock is IMO not a feature worth $1100.= extra, so perhaps these two 1977 guitars were sold years ago.
My Aria Pro II L-1000NT (also known as PE-180)still has the open book headstock. They were actually more like the Gibson Super V:
an L-5CES with a Super 400 neck. Would this mean its value is that high too? Or should it have a SOLID spruce top to reach these prices? Or should it just say IBANEZ?
(I'm not planning to sell)
What is the top wood of the 2460? Laminated select spruce, carved solid spruce or pressed solid spruce like the 2461 Johnny Smith?
I'm happy for you it worked out this way. When you cash such a beautiful piece you should cash it well. And you did! ($2800.= ease the pain)

My 2460 has found a new home. The buyer played it on a gig the first night he received it and loved it. Whats not to like.
I was sorry to see it go but glad it went to a good home where
it will be played on a regular basis.
