OK, here's the deal. I was very fortunate to score an old, well gigged, but fantastic player '80 LR10. The seller even included a brand new hardshell case...that was obviously NOT intended for any Ibanez 'AS' style guitars. It is probably fine for a slightly larger guitar but my LR10 flops around in it a bit too much to assure any long term instrument security. This really became evident when I brought her to a gig last weekend. (Man, did she sound great!)

So I've searched for a properly sized vintage case to prevent further damage to this guitar's already insulted body. No bites here or anywhere on the used market.

But there are two NEW 'AS' style cases that should fit perfectly...and here's where you can help this indecisive dude.

The 'AS100C' retails for about $70 and is fairly basic and is designed for current Ibanez 'AS' gits.
OR
The 'AS200C retails for about $130 and includes a cool black shroud, better hardware, padded handle and possibly a bit more interior padding where the neck meets the body. (It's the JSM100 case)
OR
Should I hold out for a proper vintage Ibanez case?

Which case do you guys suggest I get for this great playing instrument?

I would go for the AS100C because its cheap but that's me, and considering the guitar is already "broken in" that case should be fine.

Guffe,

Must it be an Ibanez case or will any good ES-335 case do?
Because there several good wooeden and ABS cases available.

made out of ABS:
- GATOR,
- JUSTinCASE,
- SKB,
- TKL;

made out of wood:
- BOSTON,
- GEWA,
- DATT,
- Epiphone €79.-.

Buy what's available in North Germany.
In Groningen, Holland is a new Epiphone Sheraton case for €79.- because they will move to another location. (Normally €99.-)

Aha, I found something for you:

Sorry Tim,

I found another expensive European solution for a USA problem.

OK, here are some USA solutions:
http://www.zzounds.com/cat--Electric-Guitar-Cases--2644

Type Ctrl-F then 335 then <enter>
and you find at least 3 cases that will fit.

Thanks guys. My old 2630 has an Epiphone case but that darned huge, ugly 'E' logo had to be painted over with 4 coats of black paint! Yuck!

The best solution for this LR10 case problem was at Same Day Music. They carry the Ibanez AS100C for $70 shipped! All others added S&H bringing the price up a bit. Ordered it today.

Yep, I'm cheap...but fun

Epiphone cases are in fact standard budget cases with a logo and a too high list price. Epiphone doesn't make cases.
You could have used a liquid kitchen abrasive, to get the print off (cheaper than paint).

But I'm glad you found the matching brand. Personally I don't give a sh.., as long as the quality is high.
Most of my cases are made by JUSTinCASE.
I carry my Epiphone Zephyr Regent in a second hand Ibanez Lonestar case...
They are better, because they have an arched lid, while the Epiphone cases are flat and offer less protection.

There is nothing wrong about being both, cheap and picky when it comes to cases. We invest a lot in the contents. I'm not willing to pay hundreds of Euros for the guitar brand on a case made by contractor firm. I refuse to pay extra money for a Canadian DATT case because of a Gibson logo. I carry my DC in a vintage Yamaha SG case: it fits perfectly!

Hello Tim

Sorry About the distance.
The bay area is infact a bit too far.

Ginger:
The AS case was mented for Tim's 80 LR10.

When i bought my AM205 from Dave jacobs it was in a much to big AS case.
Does any of you knows whitch case match my AM205?????
I am not shure about which case match.
Maybe Ibanez AM-C Case for Ibanez AM Acoustics ????

I know, my fingers were a bit trigger happy.
But...
Yes, as a matter of fact I do.
The case number is AM50C.

It should be still available, since there are new Artcore AM models.

Kind greetz,

Measurements for the AM73 itself which the AM100C is made for are as follows...

Max width at lower bout: 14 3/4 inches

Max body thickness; 2 5/8 inches

I think if you measure your AM205 you can check for yourself to make sure.

Let me know.

The AM50C has been available in Holland long after all AM50 guitars were sold out. They used them for NOS AM50 and new AM200 guitars in 1993.

The info I find on Google on AM50C says that it's suitable for Ax/Gax and Artist series, and as you know the original guitar it was meant for (the AM50) was an small body thinline Artist model.

Now the AM50C cases are sold out here, and the new Artcore AM series appeared, they introduced the AM-C as the new AM Case.

I think all 3 cases are suitable for any AM guitar.
Here's the best price in Germany on the AM-C €79.- + €8.- shipping for Denmark: at Music Town
http://www.music-town.de/cgi-bin/mtshop/front/shop_main.cgi?func=dlink&artnr=07. 105.00192&order=&wkid=7753702231

Second best option:
€89.- + €8.- shipping cost at Thomann:
http://www.thomann.de/de/ibanez_am_c_2.htm?partner_id=61568

Their explicit warranties cost you €10- extra.

It's up to you...

The AM100C and the AM50C are 2 different sizes. See for your self. I would go with Ibanez's recomended case if the AM205 measurements are the same as what I posted above.

Hoshino Holland recommended the AM50C for the AM200 and AM400 in 1988 and for the AM50, AM80 and AM200 in 1993.
They wrote it's for all AM models.

What I see in the above pictures is two AM cases from different angles.
So it's difficult to say anything about the size.

The AM100C has less locks and will be a bit cheaper to produce.
The AM-C is made for the Chinese Artcores. If they're made in China, they can be even cheaper.
The shape changes between Artist-Artstar-Artcore lay mainly in the headstock. I expect no problems.

Ginger, this is my last post in this thread. I just told you what the cases are. The cases are TKL made in Canada.

The AM50C in 1993 may not be the same dimensions as the AM50C of 2006!

Ibanez.com uses the same picture for the AM100C, but that's an error.
All AMs are small body.

He kept that case, for another of his guitars and send me the case, he resived together with the AM205. THAT case is an AS case that looks eksactly like the AM100C. !!!! Just older.
i will maby try to find his mail regardind this issue.
I did the same investigation and found out that some/many of the pictures are the same regardless type, number and so on.
i am now pretty convinced that i need the AM50C case.

Guffe they are 2 diferent cases and the pics are not the same as Ginger says. I posted them above. What are the measurements of your guitar?
Is it the same as the Artist solid body?

The AM50C is fairly narrow across the top of the guitar body. My AM300 fit perfectly, but my AM200 was a little too tight across the top. It fit, but you sort of had to squeeze it in. From what I understand, the AM100C is a looser fit. I took measurements and posted them somewhere on this site :-)

GuitarTim, I have the original case for my AS200, and it is a poor fit. The guitar moves around quite a bit. I'm thinking of getting an AS200C - this is a very lush and protective case. BTW, where in SF are you? I'm in Bernal Heights.

Freak (BTW thank you for your mail),
You're right about the pictures, not about the case. In the upper picture it is placed more diagonally, with the neck part more backwards, but it is the same typ of case.
An AM case has a much shorter body part and a much longer neck part. That's why it needs an extra lock on it.

Funkle,
I'm not upset. The AM50C was my first recommendation. The problem is: can you get one in Europe? Shipping overseas is way too expensive.

Hello

Today i have tryied to locate a AM50C in Europe
That seem to be impossible.
i will come back later, with some coment regarding the proses of finding the corect case
im am convinsed that i can get at lot of cases, square the AM-C and the AM100C case
But gayies LOOK at my pictures and see all the buties. They all got this fantastic LOOK inclusive the AM50C case !!!!!
They just look butiful I dont know if you can se the "SPASTIC" among them ???
The reson why we play these fine and beautiful instruments is the sound/and the look AND the feeling that everything fits as a hole. olso the case. When we cary around with sometimes a lot of gear, I always feel a pleshure when i take my guitar as the last thing open the case and plug it in. and i ******** dont like the AM100 look
That would spoil some off the pleshure i have.
Basicly the playing JAZZ standards and jazz/rock
is all that mattes and i cary my AM205 around in the AS case until the COREKT nice case in maybe just round the corner

The case with the brown pluche lining your AM205 is laying in, is the same case my 1983 AM50 Artist came in.
That is the old AM50C.
Look at the lovely neck support: excellent case.
I think the old ones are better than the new ones, because of the neck support.
