Hey all,
Was looking at this AS100 and was hoping for some opinions on if this really is a 1990 AS100. Could the pickups be stock? Also thoughts on the price ($589-729) would be appreciated too. Thanks. |

for a hollow or semi-hollowbody means it is built in the Terada factory in 1989.
The same serial numbers are used for solid body artist made in the Iida factory.
(info on serial numbers see Captain Ibanez topic)
I can't find it in the Europe and USA catalogues,
but I found it in the USA 1989 pricelist:

The pickups in the picture look like V2's and that's what the seller writes.
The pricelist says nothing about the pickups. Could be original. The AS100 was $999.95 then.
(The AS200 was $1399.95.)
So it is worth about 5/7 of the used 1989 AS200 value.
So if the used 1989 AS200 would still be worth a $1400.-, the AS100 would be $1000.
I guess this price is very reasonable. And it is an auction with a ceiling. Good for you! If you really want it, use the BIN, or else you could get sniped in the last seconds!

If the competition wakes up, $130.- price difference is NOTHING!

I bought one from 89 that is Bugundy. It is fantastic...best playing semi..stands beside the Heritage 535. I just love the neck on Ibanez vs. and other semi. I was told by people here mine has 58's....but I never took the covers off to look. It doesn't matter it sounds great.
The only downside is I commute to music school...and it is a TANK. It kills the back...so I switched back to my solid body for the ride to and fro.
I got mine for 470 - 500 ( I can't really remeber). I emailed the guy who was auctioning it on ebay and asked him if he'd end the auction for a the above price. Much to my surprsie he was cool with it. I didn't think it was worth a 1000 though. Mine is in fantastic shape. Best action I have ever seen. |

One of these bidders on the older vintage AS100 paid over $1000.- but most paid less.
The "top model" for most (not all) years that the AS guitars were issued is more desirable, but the prices being asked are getting really absurd. I the only one with a low price (700 something) a few days ago had a twisted neck and some damage at the neck joint (that might be due to a neck reset). The pictures and info were very honest.
This AS100 looks really OK and original. That's worth something. You don't have to go searching for parts or bring it to the luthier to inspect and fix the neck joint and (try) to get the twist out. You're at least not buying someone else's problem child and can start playing right away.
