gday,
recently bought an AF105 NT (brand new). am very pleased with the guitar, esp as i have been playing a strat for the last ten years or so. anyway, my problem is this: it seems that when i pluck the g string open or the d string open there is an annoying buzz coming from around the bridge area. more of an overtone that something distinct, but nonetheless is still evident. in fact, any time i play a d or g note anywhere else on the fret board, it can be heard...i took it back to the dealer and asked for a re-jig but it is still there. my thots are either that this is a natural overtone that exists in the guitar and im just gonna have to learn to live with it, or it can be fixed. wondering if anyone else has noticed this on the same instrument and what would be your advice to me.

With a flashlight and long nosed pliers, try re-seating the pickup wiring inside the guitar, especially around the pots where the wires may contact the side of the instrument. |

Jon,
Aiden could be right.
But since it is a brand new instrument, you could go back to the shop where you bought it, and let them solve it. It should still be under warranty.

I had a similar problem with my AF125. It was actually a number of unrelated buzzes that developed over a period of 3 months. Initially, the pickup selector toggle switch would buzz on certain notes. I had the shop where I purchased it replace it with a higher quality switch. I then noticed a different buzz/rattle coming from the pickups. I subsequently removed the springs from both pickups and replaced the springs with relatively soft vinyl tubing. This addressed the buzz from the pickups but the pickups are no longer adjustable which is fine as I have them at the ideal height. Next was a vibration/rattle from the pickguard. Two issues actually - one - the pickguard was resting on the bridge pickup casing and two - a nut was loose on the pickguard. I tightened the nut and raised the pickguard.
The end result is a buzz/vibration/rattle free guitar. It was somewhat frustrating troubleshooting the various problems, but the guitar is so responsive and lively that basically anything that isn't nailed down may become prone to these issues. It was well worth it as its an amazing sounding guitar! |
