Ok I've heard of this about 100 times the past month or so. Rick, you seem to be the resident expert on that. Care to share it with us or anyone else who has the knowledge. Looks like bee's wax to me. What's it mixed with, and lets hear some methods. I've noticed everyone has a different method. Rick your's seems EZ. Mike

What I saw most in the pickups I opened, is paraffin wax, just like in cheap candles. But your wax will certainly smell better.

You could try ear wax.

You use a mix of 20% beeswax and 80% candle wax because of the properties when they are mixed. I'll look for the article; but, just believe me for the short term...I'm out of town and don't have my PC data.

I bought a $20 fryer with an adjustable temperature (not too big, brand when I get home) and put 4 lbs candle wax and 1 lb bees wax. I only use the fryer for the potting. Use a thermometer after it melts to keep the melted wax at 150 degrees F. The pups need go in for about 20 minutes so that the metal heats up and the wax can flow through the windings. After the potting, wipe the faces of the pup cover before it gets cold and it's much easier to get the wax off.

Ask more questions and I'll answer.

It's funny how these google ads on the right react on every word we use. They're offering Beeswax Candles and Ear Wax Remover.

Huh... what?

EAR WAX REMOVER!!!

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't hear you, I had a candle in my ear...

And now we've come down to the Sesame Street level, we wait for the Muppets to appear in the adds. PIGS IN SPACE!

Just watch what happens...

OK it's wax-a-roma boys. My wife will kick my butt but I have a new use for the fryer now.

Thanks everyone. Rat

Ginger I never even looked at them but you are on the money. Hey, if we put our heads together, knowing my past profession, we could have some fun with this. You bait them then I'll follow up.
