GBY2K's are fantastic 'over the top' models. It's the first 'solid' wood GB model and I hope not the last. Fred's Music comes into some cool n.o.s. stuff sometimes (I got my AR3000 from Fred), so it looks legit. He might have picked a bad time to list it so close to Christmas and all, but ya never know. Seems that collectors dedicated to the mark always have that extra cash ready for a deal such as this.

Let's see how high this one goes for.

White knobs hmmmmm? They seem a little cheezy. The rest of the guitar is out of this world WOW!What is that symbol on the headstock-a butterfly on a pyramid ? Very esoteric, sort of like S. Vai odd symbols.Alien technology ?

The symbol you referred to is a mask. It symbolizes "The Masquerade" Y2K model guitar. I know you remember George Benson's rendetion of the Leon Russell hit song "This Masquerade".

Kinda corny, but well executed nonetheless.

It's a gorgeous guitar. I wish I hadn't seen it. To date, I do not regret selling my GB100 (at least not too much) but that GBY2K is giving me major GAS. Must resist...

I think this is the guitar I saw at the Philly Guitar show.

GBY2K

It was very nice, but the finish was so thin and satiny that it looked strange, to me. The white knobs were disappointing. But there are so many other nice touchs: the truss rod cover, inlays on the tailpiece, pearl gold hardware finish, ebony pickguard, bridge and black pickups.

The GBY2K would be even better if the pickguard had been bound and if the knobs were also made of ebony.

It would LOOK better. If it would BE better, is questionable. I love bound tortoise pickguards on jazz boxes, but a few days ago, is saw this binding laminator on www.stewmac.com and I read that you should use pure ACETON to glue the binding layers together. Then there is this small block of tortoise material that's glued (with ACETON) under the pick guard as a reinforcement. I'm not sure, but it could be the acid ACETON gassing out and causing a redox reaction on the metal hardware. Even your fret wire might turn green.

If you have such a beautiful bound tortoise pickguard on your guitar, keep the instrument in a stable quick lock or "quock lick" imitation stand
and NOT IN THE CASE!

I emailed Fred and tried to convince him to let somebody from Sweden with an unlimited PayPal account and a verified PayPal address in on the bidding, but unfortunately, only US and Canada on this one.

Bidding ended one day early. Do you think that somebody picked it up in the store? Anybody from ICW?

I asked Fred about the BIN and he mailed he'd let it go for $3000. It wasn't me, though :-)

$3000 sounds like a real bargin for a GB Y2K if it really went for that. I would have gone further.

Björn, that would have been a perfect addition to your collection...
