absolutely right. the only thing that sets a good guitar from a so-so one is the quality of the materials (in other words a good neck vs. a bad one; playability varies a lot). in some cases a cheap pickup sucks, but nowadays it's easy to find an "average" for very few $$$.
we're talking about electric guitars, not concert acoustic instruments. kurt rosenwinkel recorded some albums using a 200-bucks epiphone 335 clone, so... if it's good for him...
